I think Sloetjes's peak really was right around 2016. At her peak, I agree with others, I think she was the best in the world. That being said, her peak isn't close to where Boskovic or Egonu are right now, and I don't think they're at the top of their game yet. Which is scary. It's sad because it just seems like her peak didn't last very long. I was going back to try and find when she started playing, or at least when she hit the big leagues. In 2013, she wasn't on Netherland's Euro Championships roster. She was on their 2013 Grand Prix roster and their 2014 World Championship roster. Looking at some Youtube clips from 2013 at the Grand Prix, it doesn't look like she was starting. Not sure if anyone else remembers more about her (or Netherlands) from this time, but my impression is that 2014 is when she started to really shine. Sloetjes got her big break and went to Italy in 2013 for club but got hurt and that delayed her emergence on the national team. She made her comeback in Germany the next season, where she crushed and played well enough to get the Vakifbank call up and eventually broke out as a star. In the years prior, the Dutch also had an incumbent, very high-profile opposite (Flier, who they kept way too far into her decline) and someone a couple of years older that they had been grooming as a successor (Pietersen) in her position, so that's why it took Sloetjes longer to push through than an outside like Buijs who she came up with but who got playing time earlier despite not being as good. If she could pass to play outside she would have been making rosters as a teenager.

Not sure if I would call Sloetjes a late bloomer, but I agree she did have some twist and turns before emerging as a star. Sometimes its a matter of finding the right environment to shine, with the right coach, team, players, etc. Sloetjes probably had to figure what suits her best before her talent can fully bloom on court.

When did foreigner limits get put into place for the Turkish league? I'm watching a match form 2017 and Eczacibasi has 6 foreign players on court sometimes.

dang I was hoping bosko was the best I’m obsessed with her now. Just started watching her play yesterday lol Her defense is probably ahead of Egonu, but offensively, Egonu can literally destroy the competition. Spiking: Pretty much in the same level. Egonu takes advantage of her spike reach, Boskovic takes advantage of her southpaw attack. Blocking: Egonu > Boskovic. Serving: Egonu > Boskovic. Digging: Boskovic > Egonu.

I have the stats From WGP 2016 to COQT 2020, SPIKING (points-errors/total attempts) 32.6% Boskovic (915-316/1840) 30.0% Egonu (1341-486/2847) BLOCKING (points-errors/total attempts) -01.6% Egonu (111-105/377) -08.9% Boskovic (58-81/259) SERVING (points-errors/total attempts) -09.4% Egonu (151-251/1060) -16.4% Boskovic (65-155/550) DIGGING (1-errors/total attempts) 85.8% Boskovic (1-54/379) 85.2% Egonu (1-59/400) *** I made an error in my spreadsheet, sorry about that. I updated the stats above. Boskovic actually had better spiking stats than Egonu, and their digging are pretty much on similar levels.
