It's kind of crazy they haven't been able to settle. Litigating this has to be so far down the list of things Stanford wants to do right now. I assume that means that for both sides it is more important to be vindicated than to resolve the monetary issues.

Stanford has no need to be "vindicated" by the proceedings. I believe it means that Stanford finds the plaintiff’s demands to be unreasonable.

Yep, but now that I think that punitive and damages related to future pro are off the table and Hodson has to sit for yet another deposition because of discovery shenanigans, If there was ever a meaningful settlement amount, perhaps the Hodson's take it. My guess is that it really won't be THAT much. She's still getting her Stanford degree and I don't recall the university engaging in any bad faith reputation tarnishing, I imagine that being an athlete, most of her medical is still being covered by Stanford? general non-economic damages are capped at $250k... I dunno where a big monetary award would come from, and it seems pretty clear that Stanford would be willing to take this to trial. Some of the depo transcript is public record..... brutal.

Stanford, I'm sure, would settle this if the the plaintiff's attorney proposed even a remotely reasonable amount. I suspect Hodson and her attorneys were trying to take Stanford & The NCAA to the cleaners, probably to the tune of millions.

The lawyers are getting ar least 30% of the settlement, they want their big pay day from the fatted calf.

Are PAC-12 VB teams back for summer training (open gym and weights) like a lot of the other VB teams in different conferences?
If so, does Gavin Newsom’s order today 7/13, to shut down indoor fitness centers apply to the teams? (California)

(California) Looking at the trends for cases, I am increasingly convinced that all this talk about "how we play NCAA sports in the Fall" is going to be moot. I will point out that the NCAA has already ruled that if the general population of students are not allowed on campus, then the school is barred from playing athletics.

(California) Arizona and Colorado VB were the furthest along the process but both had issues which halted their progress. Other schools in the conference are in the testing/individual workout phase.

"Conference-only" is crap. Better to cancel sports until COVID-19 is no longer an excuse and narrative is left to authors of fiction. No politics means no politics. Enjoy your timeout!

I haven't been over to the sports complex area since December, so I don't know if they've pulled the trigger, but it is feasible. Volleyball gyms you can't move outdoors. Stanford's volleyball practice gym can easily have its doors propped open, which might be of some help.

Tell Karen to suck it up, she won't melt. There is also this thing called beach volleyball.

To be clear hammer I feel your outside the box thinking on strength and conditioning is awesome, and something we all need to do more of in these challenging times. Much better than just giving up in adversity. Not sure my original post conveyed that.

Do you have a link to this NCAA "rule"? I not only don't think they have made such a rule, I don't think they are authorized to make a rule like this.
