I imagine women's was only not cut because they are needed to balance Title IX considerations from other parts of the Department. Looking at the number of sports alone, more of women’s teams than men’s. Participation-wise, not sure. ope.ed.gov/athletics/#/institution/detailsOverall student population: 11,715 men, 15,468 women (57%) Athletes: 239 men, 265 women (53%)

Isn’t Old Dominion starting their REAL volleyball season this year?

Isn’t Old Dominion starting their REAL volleyball season this year? Yep. I'm guessing their move from FCS to FBS football created Title IX issues. So in a women's sport, out with a men's sport.

On the suspended/altered seasons front, Oregon gov says no spectator events through September. Games might be played but no fans. This will affect PAC12 football at minimum. We'll see if that alters other NCAA sports.

Wait, I think I heard Nebraska is cutting their volleyball program. Maybe even Texas, Stanford and Penn State. Nah, they're going to consolidate. The CornHorn TreeLions

Due to adding two sports this past year, I doubt very much Akron will cut sports. The bad news, I am guessing, will be huge budget cuts and increased need/requirement for fundraising. Akron is shuttering 6 of there 11 colleges...how many student athletes are going to have to transfer to get their chosen degree? That alone could shut down teams.

In almost every article about this situation they’ve mentioned that current students will be able to finish the degree path they’re on should their major be effected

Akron is consolidating colleges to save on duplicate bureaucracies and its associated costs. For example, putting the college of polymer engineering into the college engineering.

While I guess it is possible some majors may be lost, elimination of colleges will be more along lines of consolidation. College will save by lessening administrative costs.

An example of administrative consolidation... My sister is a faculty member at a small state university in the Midwest. The university ran into financial problems a few years ago accompanied by decreased enrollment. To save money the university encouraged early retirement and did not fill vacated positions. At that time her position was Chair of the Art and Design department. They added Chair of the Communications, Media Arts, and Theater department to her duties. Then they added Chair of the Music department. A year ago they also made her the Interim Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. So she is now the Chair of three departments and an Associate Dean.

I have followed the cruel ravages of this viral pandemic as it has crossed the globe. Now comes the news that COVID-19 has taken the Tiffin University Equestrian Program from us...... When will the horrible devastation cease?
