At the end of the day, it’s the right decision.
Imo, clearly the option is the proposal to cancel sports in 2020, then play 3 x 10 week seasons starting in January. Under that plan, volleyball would run March 1st-May 8th, and that’s what I’m expecting the state to eventually switch to.
Gutted for the guys and teams who had a shot to go far this year, but it’s all about making the best out of a really s***y situation. Trying to rush a season just so we could *possibly* get a state championship in would have been incredibly irresponsible, especially considering that most schools, if not all, will be using the hybrid or fully-remote model this year. A postponed and condensed season is better than a cancelled one. There’s a real risk of sports teams becoming “super-spreaders” on campus and in the coummunity, and just one case can lead to an outbreak within a team and be enough to shut down an entire team for weeks.
It’s like learning how to ride a bike, put on the training wheels and slowly work your way up. In this case, work to get kids back in the classrooms, and make sure to get the academic side of things up and running. Once schools prove that they can handle and sustain somewhat-normal educational activities, then start to introduce sports and other activities.

Glad that the state is prioritizing regular season over playoffs, I know a few coaches held out longer than they should have.
For anybody who disagrees with cancelling the state tournament this early on...
Only 10-20 teams play more than a few playoff games, it's not worth sacrificing the entire season for a few teams to play a state tournament. 16 game regular season with minimal disruption over 10-12 games because the season has to start and stop every week, with players and parents in constant fear of the virus.
Let's just make sure to get the kids out on the court. Let the seniors play that last season, allow to rising programs with new, young coaches to develop, and lets hope to get make to some sense of normalcy soon.

Also interested in seeing what happens to club season, especially if the season gets moved to the spring. May have to re-evaluate our options. Tough spot to be in when you're working on growing a new club.

As much as I hate not being to play this fall, we’re (our school) is not going to miss out on too many matches this year.
Only teams who are really hurt are the teams at the state level and those who travel.

Only Cuomo knows the answer to that. If indoor sports aren’t permitted...which I’d be shocked if they were, then I don’t think volleyball has much of a chance. But things can change. I’m not holding out much hope so as not to be disappointed. I’m to the point where if we play in March... awesome! If not then I’m banking on Pfizer and Moderna to get us going in Fall 21. But then that’s a whole other topic. Basically I’m not blocking out vball on my calendar until my AD gives me the keys to the gym.

Andrew Cuomo has approved youth/school sports of all risk levels to begin Feb. 1 across NY, pending approval by county health authorities.

The Executive Committee also decided to the following time frame for High School seasons for the remainder of the year that are inclusive of sectional play.
Basketball, Ice Hockey, Wrestling (Feb 1- March 27)
Fall 2 Boys and Girls Volleyball, Football, Cheer (March 22-May 15)
All Spring Sports (May 10-June 30)
Schedules/limited Post Season play/ possibility of Tournaments TBD this week .
So conceivably CLUB NY teams can head to Virginia for ECC if travel restrictions lighten up by then.

Let’s kick this up again... thoughts of season thus far. Upstate? Long Island? Thoughts about who will win each section?
