Yes I know this board focuses mainly on college, however considering club players haven't played since March (and some haven't even touched a ball) high school seasons will be pretty important to knock the rust off and for unRecruited 2021s to have something to salvage their recruiting process.
Do you think high school ball will happen? Many of the states with strong volleyball are also the states having huge increases in cases (Cali, Az, Texas, Florida). Any states make decisions on fall sports yet?

Indiana is in the process of opening up HS sports. Next week teams can begin practicing with protocols. The plan is to move forward with the season as "normal" but the IHSAA has an elaborate document detailing how the schools can carry that out.
The bigger concern is liability. There is currently a lawsuit in Indiana stemming from a sectional basketball game in which 5 people died from Corona that had attended that game. The worry is that if the host school settles any of those lawsuits rather than fights them and wins, that the school systems may begin pulling the plug on sports due to liability concerns since a precedent would have been set.
There is going to need to be some protection for these schools from being sued or it could all fall apart. I don't think waiver forms are enough, they need legislative protection.

California is waiting for CIF (athletic governing body) to meet in late July and make a decision. Outdoor conditioning workouts (with safety protocols) have started but nothing else.

Arizona has pushed back the start of school and athletics to August 17th (school was supposed to start August 3rd with tryouts the next week).

HS player has been "conditioning" for the past couple weeks. Groups of 9 plus Coach split into just 1/2 hour shifts vs. 1 hour 15 minutes last year with every potential player in the weight room. Practices start next week. We're not there yet but phase 3 is where they can touch a ball another player has touched. Positive COVID cases are up in our area because tourists are here. More tourists than ever before and they are bringing it with them.

Even with high schools playing this fall travel will be restricted. How many schools travel to play in tournaments normally?

California is waiting for CIF (athletic governing body) to meet in late July and make a decision. Outdoor conditioning workouts (with safety protocols) have started but nothing else. On a call with the CIF Commissioner yesterday, the next decision date is July 20th. That is the planned announcement date for fall sports. They are meeting weekly up to that point in preparation. There are a variety of paths they are considering: starting on time with additional precautions, pushing back the season start into the fall and shortening the season, or having all sports move to the spring with staggered start dates. On July 20th, no matter what the decisions is, he is planning for it to be "All or Nothing"- that either all sports go or none do. So, even the low risk sports, like golf, would follow the same decision that affects the higher-risk sports, like football and volleyball. From there, it will be up to each individual school/district to decide on their own plans for participation.

North Carolina has opened up sports with restrictions of course and they have already decided to start school a week early but tomorrow, July 1st, the governor is supposed to announce how schools will operate this fall. If there is no in-class instruction, the feeling or sentiment is that there will be no sports. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Here in Utah, things are moving forward slowly, but if any athlete even thinks that they may have been exposed, the team doesn't meet again for a period of time (football, basketball and volleyball is what i have heard so far). HS schedules, at least in my area (utah county), schools have their vb schedules for the year. I would assume the rest of the state does too. Our numbers are on the upswing as well. We have had at least one club that I am aware of that never shut down at all, held pretty much regular practices during the entire quarantine period. Our HS tryouts and some clubs try out at the beginning of august, so i guess there is another month for us to get things under control? Our schools have not yet decided how they will proceed with regular classes yet (august 1), so I don't assume they will discuss sports until that is decided. Our Gov is determined to keep the state open.

Schools can plan, and coaches can start practicing.
But I don’t see how Corona doesn’t sweep through schools once they open up. There is no way to keep kids at a safe distance on busses, in hall ways, and in classrooms.
And then once they get to practices and games, the masks come off, and everything spreads.
And then you bring in another school for games, and players and parents mix, and now you have kids in 2 schools infected.
We closed schools in March to contain the virus. But nothing has changed in the months since that would stop the spread.
