Now IHSA has Went back on what they said yesterday and tabled the decision about athletes playing HS and club at the same time. It’s a %*$# show over here. The governors office said today that the governor will not be responding to the petition by IHSA. Not a good situation for Illinois volleyball players no matter how you look at it. For 18's, most USAV qualifiers are prior to the current February 15th IHSA start date, however, the USAV national tournament is set for April 23-25th, which is during the HS season. For 15-17's most all the qualifiers fall during the February 15th through May 1st time frame, however, the national tournament will be after. Players will be forced to choose in all age groups. IHSA has petitioned the governors office to regain control of the decision on when to restart fall sports with the intent to restart sooner. Given only a dozen or so states have deferred High School to next year, I'm not sure if USAV would be willing to change the qualifier or national dates. Most Illinois clubs have suggested that they would not want to put the players in a situation in which they have to choose and would therefore pause the club season during the February 15th through May 1st period. This would then leave AAU's as the only option for Illinois club teams.

Every single qualifier is within IL spring HS season. The only thing they could go to right now is TC and nationals. So far, mostly true, but many 18 qualifiers are prior to 2.15 and Northern lights 17/18 qualifier is in January 29-31 (other HS ages, 15/16 is April 30-May 1). Windy City Qualifier is listed as *tentative* and I would imagine they move earlier or later given that about 18% of teams from 15-17 in the 2019 qualifier were from IL. If not, lots of IL teams will be in Orlando in June! WCQ is locked in for Easter weekend as there are other conventions on other weekends. Only if Chicago allows more than 50 people, more than 25% capacity, and removes the quarantine from all those states will they allow WCQ to happen. Most teams attending WCQ are from outside IL. With the current restrictions, McCormick Place will NOT be hosting ANY events until clearance is given from the City. So, no Boys Winter Championship (girls 18’s qualifier) nor Windy City Qualifier until further notice. Also, Palmer House is in default, so there goes 1000 hotel rooms.

There are some open dates in May for sure according to mccormick place event calendar and palmer house is still taking reservations regardless of being in default. Very true the biggest hurdle to WCQ is city and state guidelines for events. Worse case, lots more IL teams in AAU that usual. That is not such a horrible thing. Really hope IL changes position on dual participation, but if not, again, not the end of the world.

Some of the schools around here have announced that from this point forward they will no longer be accepting cash at the door. Fans are required to purchase a "digital ticket" prior to the game. Okay. So I went to their website, and in order to do this you get slapped with a $1.50 processing fee on top of the ticket price for every transaction.
Is this even legal? It says right on the front of the five dollar bill, and I quote, "This note is legal tender for all debts public and private." Are they allowed to refuse to take cash, if you have exact change? Why on Earth would they even want to refuse to take cash? I thought everybody liked cash.

I mean, they don't even accept pay pal. They actually expect you to punch your credit card numbers in there. It is not a district wide service, either. Each school has their own ticket page. So far it is only two out of six schools. But it was only one school up until this week. I don't like where this is headed.

Or banks saying a cashiers check will take 5-10 business to clear and be available. even though it says right on the cashiers check it is cash... I say we go back to barter and pay for VB games with a chicken!

But when it is five bucks to get in, and I have a nice crisp five dollar bill.... it's just kind of weird, man.

If that is the weirdest affect Covid had on our day to day lives, we'd all be very fortunate.

Why on Earth would they even want to refuse to take cash? I thought everybody liked cash. It's $5/transaction here, but you can get 4 tickets with each transaction. This has led to some creative conspiring among families and fans to pay as little as we can in processing fees. Funny thing is: they are not limiting contact. Someone at the door has to scan the bar code on your ticket. Not sure how this is better than setting up plexiglass, demanding exact change, and having the person taking the money wear gloves.

If that is the weirdest affect Covid had on our day to day lives, we'd all be very fortunate. This isn't really an area that is all that overzealous about covid. There are unlimited crowds, unmasked teams, and unmasked cheerleaders. If refusing to accept the very money that funds their athletic dept is their lone covid precaution, aside from their poorly enforced mask rule, then that only adds to the peculiarity.

Dublin Coffman (OH) just had their 155 game Conference win streak snapped by Olentangy Liberty. The steak dates back to 2007, back before the seniors were even in Kindergarten. The Dublin Coffman ROCKS are back in the win column, mowing down their primary rival, the Hilliard Davidson Wildcats! Thus begins a new.... Conference winning streak!!!! https://www.instagram.com/p/CFQtfpDB0B7

Texas big schools scrimmaged tonight! Games start Tuesday! I'm still not on board with this season, but I went to a scrimmage because they are going to play whether I like it or not. It went as well as designed by the UIL. All fans wore masks and spread out in the bleachers (I sat WAY in the back so no one would breathe on me). All tickets had to be requested by players in advance to ensure a limited attendance. There were separate entrances to the gym for players and fans. Players were very good about putting on their masks when they left the court. My only real complaint is that the Refs were not wearing masks and using regular whistles instead of hand whistles. But I suppose if you're letting the girls be in each other's faces at the net, you might as well let the refs do their thing. I noticed the NBA refs have fabric whistle covers.

In Minnesota... the MSHSL just decided to go ahead with the Fall volleyball season after previously postponing until Spring. The season starts in a WEEK! No details on whether it's a full season with a State Championship or if girls who already started playing a fall club season can play both or have to choose between one or the other.
