For California, I think that clubs can do some training in the fall, and switch to more of a boys-club type of split season. We'll see what SCVA and NVCA choose to do, but I think HS and club can coexist (although it'll be pretty tough for 18s teams, since national stuff starts a lot earlier). That said, I also know a lot of clubs that don't seem to give a poop about trying to "play nice" with HS volleyball, so...

If delaying school ball causes overlap and that causes players to choose between club and school, I would think that would mean MORE kids playing. Isn't that what high school sports are all about?

I'm all for more kids playing. But what this could create is an issue where seniors are having to decide to play club ball or enjoy their senior year of athletics and what that all brings. Senior night, recognition for playing for their school, etc etc. I have players on my HS team that play club... we had a great season last year and the incoming seniors were excited about continuing that success. Now they're going to have to choose?
And while not everyone is going to college to play volleyball, a lot of kids just love to play the game and will play club on that aspect alone.

In our area, if you don’t make varsity, you drop club volleyball for something else to put on your CV for college application. Hence, the huge drop off in numbers after 16’s to those who are varsity & potential collegiate players. Rarely do we get a player who loves the game that much.

If my DD (senior) will have to decide between club and school - I really don't know which she would pick! Difficult for sure. Another wrinkle - our club has several college players and coaches that coach the club players. If college season gets postponed..... well that would be a bummer.

Yes, more kids will be able to play. But that might be due to more skilled players choosing Club over HS, if forced to make a choice. Doing both at the same time seems overwhelming.

I am not sure more kids will get to play as schools may chose to drop frosh or JV due to shortages of either court time or coaches for practices. My DD that is in high school would likely chose club over HS as well. Her take is that the level of play on her 15s team this year was higher than level of play when she was playing HS. The club multi-day tournaments are a pretty big draw for the girls.

It's definitely a dilemma. I don't know how this will all work itself out. As far as the high school cutting fr/jv teams.... I hope not. But luckily for us in my area, basketball isn't going at the same time. My school has two courts, and now with both boys and girls volleyball going at the same time it'll make our gym unavailable most of the time.

Seems like HS would better prepare a player for what you might expect in college.
Rather than playing only with players your same age and skill level, you bring together a variety of players from a variety of clubs, where a freshman can beat out a senior, and then you have to figure out a way to bring it altogether somehow, and gel as a team.

Maybe split the Women's season for HS with an October start, then a spring finish?

I think it depends where the HS is. In SoCal, the CIF Southern Section has great HS volleyball. Last year the typical (Open, DI, DII, and DIII) varsity teams were filled with D1 commits, or ranked PSAs. But if this season a player has to choose, they will likely play Club. At least, that is the consensus based on my limited contacts with other players/parents here so far.
