So Texas has started season ticket sales for VB with the announcement that the season will be played in the Erwin Center. Yippee? Yes, Yippee because it means there WILL be or at least Texas is going to TRY to play VB this year. Just hope there's someone to play against!
Decided to look at the conference game home attendance for last year of the 9 Big 12 schools that play VB. I'll list them by their [Home Court Capacity] MIN-HOME, MAX-HOME recorded attendance (according to the NCAA web site, excluding playoff hosting):
1. Baylor [10,080]: Kansas - 677, Texas - 7,357 2. Iowa State [14,020]: WVU - 1,779, Texas Tech - 3,376
3. Kansas [2,265]: Texas Tech - 1,466, Kansas State - 1,971
4. Kansas State [5,000]: OU - 614, Kansas - 2,655
5. Oklahoma [2,000]: Texas Tech - 564, Texas - 2,442
6. Texas [4,000]: Iowa State - 2,881, Baylor - 4,215
7. TCU [1,350]: WVU - 1,311, Texas - 2,171
8. Texas Tech [15,050]: WVU - 393, Texas - 1,545 9. West Virginia [14,000]: TCU - 487, OU - 1,095
The ones in RED are where I wonder if the fire marshal was around. The ones in PINK are where they'll have to obviously move to a new site for this year, to allow for social distancing.
Baylor may have to limit ticket sales for Texas.
Kansas State is really an un-airconditioned field house where they only use up part of a giant barn/track.
TCU does look small on TV, but I can't believe they constantly are fitting that many people into a small high school sized gym. Their data shows it was built in 2002. I think the NCAA may have old data? A TCU fan will have to correct me.
And the data is correct, showing Texas #8 in home attendance. It'll be weird watching VB in the Erwin Center. I've never seen it there.

I've been to several matches at TCU. The capacity number appears accurate. The majority of high school gyms I've been in hold that much or more. Typically published capacity numbers are the number of seats. The overage would be standing room only. I'm trying to recall the change TCU made for the Texas match. IIRC they added some extra bleachers at the ends of the court.

First the ACC indicated they were going to alter their Fall schedule, which then gave Big 10 the excuse/push to alter their Fall schedules, to the surprise of the other league commissioners (don't blame Big 10). In a tiny league such as ours....we've only got 9 VB teams, we play each other twice.....so 16 games only? And then WVU, sheesh, that long travel for what gain? Should they be exempt from Big 12 play this year and play with the ACC?
I figure that the Texas teams would play games with in-state colleges, where tests can be done within 24 hours to know if it's safe for a day-trip bus ride and game.

Any word on when the Big-12 is meeting? Or what they are leaning towards?

Any word on when the Big-12 is meeting? Or what they are leaning towards? Nah. It's football first that''s all they're worried about, except Texas. Not chest beating here, but when your volleyball team is almost always in the top 10 and it's the most popular women's sport on campus, Jerritt makes sure his issues (will we play? when will we play? where will we play?) get addressed with his AD. Now, if there's anyone to play against? That's the big question right?
I checked TCU, OU, and Kansas to see if there were any announcements about moving their season to play in their respective basketball arenas. Some sort of sign that they were thinking about non-football.
Nothing.

Any word on when the Big-12 is meeting? Or what they are leaning towards? I got a call this morning from the Texas Athletics ticket office about renewing volleyball and basketball season tickets. The deadline is end of this month and she said the Big 12 would be meeting at the end of the month to make decisions regarding the seasons. Consider the source and take that for what it's worth.

I know the SEC is waiting until the bitter end as well! The Power 5 wants a football season!!

I am going to bet that there will be just conference only or no fall VB. It will be very difficult to exclude West Virginia unless WV didn't want the travel expense - I don't see that happening. A charter flight to West Virginia is no different in COVID risk than a charter flight to Kansas or Iowa. They are probably going to be less concerned with travel and more interested in 100% control over the schedules and teams. I don't think this would happen - but it would be kind of fun to add Creighton as a 10th team for VB this fall and make it an 18 game season. Another option would be to make a Texas schedule (the 4 big 12 teams, plus Texas State, Rice, etc) - maybe add Oklahoma and Tulsa. But why would those Big 12 teams want to do this - it wouldn't be in their interest and would have to be some sort of last resort.

All nine Big 12 volleyball programs earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 season announced by the United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.

Heard that Big12 teams will have to play half of the teams at home and half the teams away (host a team twice in a weekend or have to play the same team twice away during a weekend). My Texas friend also said they get to host Baylor in Austin, which is huge.
Obviously, this is all pending whether the vb season even happens.

This would make sense to do in most cases except I would think Kansas and kansas State could play the same weekend but alternate gyms since they are just an hour apart. Would be very helpful for West Virginia to reduce travel.

TCU and Texas would be a bit tougher, but not out of the question. I've driven to Austin from Arlington and back more than once.
