I didn't realize the Pac-12 doesn't require 4-year guaranteed scholarships. I guess each school can make that decision for themselves?

Says a lot that they couldn’t even keep the pac 12 FOY a couple years ago. Sad this is how players are being treated and wonder why there is not any change if trends continue.
Lots of roster turn over, very poor results, you are in a good conference.
I guess the school doesn’t care about vball

Not saying this was the case, but my understanding is that basically a loophole in the rule says that if the player didn’t get the scholarship in her first year at the school (or on the team?) hen the guarantee doesn’t apply and reverts to the old 1-year renewals format.

From the article: Sounds like an incoming freshman thing. And the player quoted left after her freshman year.

Thanks. I think what I said is still correct but obviously doesn’t apply to this.

I feel horrible for these girls. As athletes at the highest level, they should not be enduring this disgusting treatment. Glad it is being investigated.

I would not even wish it on athletes at the lowest level.

OK, so sounds like a “multi year scholarship” is a specific thing in the NCAA, that they’ve allowed schools to offer since 2012. And the P5 (a football term) autonomy group made a rule in 2015 that a multi year scholarship couldn’t be yanked. But that doesn’t mean any particular DI program/coach has to offer them. They can still offer single year scholarships. www.sportsengine.com/article/are-athletic-scholarships-guaranteed-4-years

As a former, short-time denizen of Corvallis...one who hung out all around their Athletic Department..I can categorically state that OSU's, and Corvallis', culture is VERY different;
A kinda throwback old-school mentality, if you will (thanks, Sundy)! Not sure if it relates here.

But I could be wrong.

ESPN crawl has the story... two players considered suicide, one tried, because of Bernard.
That's what the public at-large is hearing.
Two years ago they had a pedophile pitcher on the baseball team, and yeah, it was a more nuanced story, but that's what the public knew. Rough for the OSU community to stomach, I would think.

Not quite sure as to your point, here; seems to be some type of (ambiguous) spin? Here is something unambiguous: I've been in athletics my whole life, including at a D1 university. I have been in locker rooms, practices, tape study sessions, road trips et al. I have seen many unethical, at best, occurrences. Nothing like this, tho.

Athletes and others with ties to the program told The Associated Press that the head volleyball coach at Oregon State University runs an abusive program that has seen 11 players quit or transfer since 2016 and two team members contemplate suicide, with one attempting an overdose.
In interviews with the AP and complaints made to the university, they said that Mark Barnard, who has led the program for five years, pits players against each other in team meetings, threatens to revoke scholarships for struggling players and pushes team members past health warnings in practice as punishment.
You are reported and need to be banned from all coaching duties ASAP
