Zero qualifications this series, doesn't look to have made any real improvements in consistency, what advice would you give?

Practice a consistent topspin toss into a topspin jump serve everyday until next season.

Just doesn’t have the technicality or instincts at the net to match the Vert. But he does seem to scrap and scramble and move well so I would be inclined to think he has potential defensively.

Next year is going to be important for him. He'll be 27 years old and might have some empty AVP's with Olympics. He's going to need to have a good season IMO.
AVP should be pretty open next year, it will be a free AVP season for FIVB p[layers to play with whomever they want for next year. Will be interesting to see where Field is viewed by other players and where he falls in the pecking order.

If Troy had a bit more points he'd be in a better position to "command" a top tier partner. His best bet may be Madison McK, I'd actually like to see them Split block for a season and both work on defense.

In theory thats an awesome team but I think Troy needs someone who is going to really get on him to be a professional and I dont see that from Madison - who struggles with lifestylitis himself. If Reid were a year or two younger he would probably be ideal

Love this idea, very solid split blocking team but we all know McK won't break up even with L after L.

With this weird off-season, I wouldn't put too much into how he looked this year.
When we get back to normal and he can train regularly, then I'd worry if he doesn't improve.
As far as what's next? Be smarter and dedicate yourself to the sport if you truly want to win. Find a coach that works best for you in teaching and motivating you to become a better player.

I don’t understand the “weird offseason” comment. From Sept-April he could have worked his ass off. Was he? I don’t know. You’re either serious about improving or you’re not. There were plenty of courts and plenty of places to work on your game from April-Mid June. A lot chose to sit it out which says a lot unless you were injured.

In all fairness, there was a lot of uncertainty in April/May about exactly what was safe, especially for those who may interact with at-risk individuals. And not everyone has a private court in their backyard. Let’s not equate Covid cautiousness with training laziness. Great for the players who did train normally, but I wouldn’t read too much into the ones that didn’t.

Personally, I started seeing him out there the end of Feb/early March.

I’ve never understood the call for Troy to play defense. If the criticism for his blocking is lack of instincts, why would his defense be any better. The problem was never a lack of scoring opportunities it’s been dumb plays giving points back. He needs a defender who’s going to dictate his actions, and he can just work on being a soldier at the net. Reid would be perfect given how “particular” he can be.
