Big Ten cancels 2020 fall football season due to COVID-19, move to spring an option
Big Ten presidents move to verge of not playing college football this fall due to coronavirus concerns
*Anonymous sources not authorized to speak have reported vote was 12-2. Official vote scheduled for 6PM eastern. Official announcement expected tomorrow. The people requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the decision. A formal announcement is expected Tuesday, the people said. The situation remains fluid as the details of what happens with a spring season remain unclear. The people said the presidents were in agreement Sunday to end fall sports in the conference. Michigan and Michigan State — which both have physicians as presidents — were among the schools in favor of ending the fall seasons, according to those people. Multiple persons with knowledge of the process said Monday morning that presidents voted 12-2 to end the season, though the Big Ten said Monday afternoon no official vote had taken place. According to The Lansing State Journal, Big Ten presidents were expected to meet again Monday at 6 p.m., ET to formally vote on ending the season. One person told the Free Press the schools are expected to collectively move forward in the same direction.

*This post should have an asterisk. The B1G has not announced anything yet. The Detroit Free Press is the source. Not the B1G.

A smidge premature. This article cites the Detroit Free Press, which does not say the season is cancelled, it says: It may be canceled. But it is not canceled yet.

It won't feel complete until we reach 12. B1G needs fourteen threads.

B1G needs fourteen threads. Sorry, they get only get 10. You decide who goes. Nebraska, Michigan, Rutgers, and ... umm... umm... Can we just go back to eleven? Made for a great double round-robin schedule.

This is not the sentiment Frost was getting at. I listened to the presser live. He's just saying they want to play. When asked if playing outside the Big Ten was realistic he said he didn't know, they hadn't looked into it. He emphatically stated Nebraska's commitment to the Big Ten later, and was not in any way signalling Nebraska was leaving, or drawing a line in the sand. If Nebraska were to play non-Big Ten football this year, that would *only* happen with the express blessings of the conference. We are happy in the Big Ten.

He has the right view IMHO. Every coach, every athlete wants to compete and win. But this Virus is bigger than all of us.

I actually disagree with this more than I wold disagree with anybody about if we should or shouldn't have a season. Rutgers and Iowa should not be required to make the same decision about the fall season. Same goes for Boston College and Georgia or Washington and Arizona. The Big Ten can certainly vote to not crown a champion this fall or to have an official conference schedule, but each university has a unique set of challenges and opportunities shouldn't be taken away from one group of young adults because another school 1,000 miles away can't make it work.
