Does it seem to anyone else that quite a few coaches are leaving the profession and/or choosing to retire right now?

It seems that COVID Pandemic has a culling effect. I am sure college coaching isn't the only profession which is experiencing this effect.

COVID is making people really examine their professions and how they work. I think it is especially the case in athletics. With budget cuts, recruiting being limited and other unforeseen problems that are negatively impacting people's income, the choice is easier now to leave and start anew.

Kevin is leaving college coaching. Hmmmm I wonder if they would look into hiring another BIG assistant who has connections to the staff? That does not seem like a logical move for really any of the parties involved outside of personal reasons, but anything is possible.

I think there is a bit of pessimism about whether college athletics would recover to the same status as it was prior to the pandemic, at least for the next 3-5 years.

Agreed and I think it’s got everyone involved in athletics to asses their options and think long term stability. The current state of affairs makes the decision to make a career switch easier because your opportunity cost (coaching) isn’t as stable and valuable as it used to be.

I think we're seeing a lot more "personal reasons" than we used to. If the pandemic came when I was a 30-year-old with a toddler and a second baby on the way, I might have have had to consider finding a more stable career
(What career path counts as "stable" right now is an entirely different discussion)
The real question is if things will bounce back enough for some of these folks to come back to college coaching (if they choose to) in a year or two... or three...
