I would love to see Harward/Scoles play Nuss/Kloth. My gut tells me the USC duo would pull it off.

So who's gonna be Adam's paid guest?

So who's gonna be Adam's paid guest? better question is what's the over under on Andy having a better top finish with Eric than Adam if all events are back to normal? Eye test says Eric is easily the better player.... But as Guest2 likes to point out, Roberts's consistency is always overlooked in comparison to much more explosive and dynamic defenders

So who's gonna be Adam's paid guest? Maybe he can get Phil to play?

Larissa and her wife appear to be listed as well Gonna be a surprise to some poor team who draws them thinking they’re playing some random 36 seed only to find out they are up against one of the greatest players of all time and her partner, both of whom have won FIVB events within the last three years.

I would love to see Harward/Scoles play Nuss/Kloth. My gut tells me the USC duo would pull it off. Harward/Scoles looked like world beaters at the Open Nationals down in Clearwater last month, and it looks like this tournament will be played on the exact same "jumper's sand" beach (although many folks properly hammered the condition of the rocks....er the sand at this particular location. We actually had watched a few of their matches, as well as those of Florida Atlantic standouts Brok/Morris during the weekend, and picked Brok/Morris in the Final, but Harward/Scoles proved us very wrong. Looks like a similar (and maybe even a tad weaker) of a field for this one, so I would not be surprised to see them in the Finals once again!

Larissa and her wife appear to be listed as well Thanks, vballjj - I did not see Larissa listed on the Entry List! I guess she is training in Orlando because that is where her Coach Ricardo lives? I'll amend my statement about this being a relatively weak women's field if they actually show up and play - ha!

Larissa and her wife appear to be listed as well They won this tournament but I wasn't able to get the score. They played Kloth and Nuss in the final. Wondering if it was close?

It was maddening. 63 degrees and cloudy, so pretty cold watching. The kids would get even or draw close in game 3, and then miss a serve. They would score a point or two off of Lili, and then serve Larissa. Every single time. Over and over again. They almost gave away Game 1 in the same manner. I know that they are young, but I will never understand why so many players, at so many different levels, don't understand that they simply need to get the damn serve in at the end of games in order to put the pressure on the other team to side out. They absolutely crushed them in game 2. Ricardo and Rafu had an easier time in the Finals than they did in the Semi. Was almost completely dark by the time they finished. All in all, a fun tournament to be at, and the sand seemed to be in better condition than it was for the Open Beach Nationals in October.

This is the dumbest and most frustrating error and you see it so often. Teams that have a player who should clearly be targeted and their opponents insist on serving the other player or constantly "mixing things up". The number of teams that regularly serve Kerri Walsh for example constantly boggles my mind. Lots and lots of coaches just outthinking themselves, although I don't know if these youngsters were coached. Maybe they just didn't know who Larissa is?

Agreed, Guest2. There was so much discussion going around about Larissa's comeback, playing with her wife, and being coached by Ricardo that I am afraid they would have to be incredibly unaware of their surroundings (or just plain ill-informed) if they did not realize who Larissa is, but you never know. They did not appear to have a coach helping them, but they were very impressive otherwise. And a stark contrast with a big so tall and a defender so short.
Was very cool to see so many young local players with so much talent - refreshes your faith in the future of US Women's beach volleyball with the college pipeline we now have, and makes you equally sad that the same opportunities are nowhere to be found for the men.
One other interesting thing happened. Not sure if you all follow the college indoor game, but Geoff Carlson (let go by Ohio State) was there coaching up a few Colorado guys (which is where he now lives). I was always impressed with his coaching demeanor while watching him Coach Ohio U and then Ohio State (as they would come over and play Indiana and Purdue), and he was really interesting to chat with for a bit. What a dog-eat-dog college coaching must be for anyone other than the Russ Rose/John Cook/Hugh McCutcheon type coaches of the world (sorry for the totally Big 10-heavy reference). Anyway, he was very frank about his experiences, and seemed to be enjoying being semi-retired and helping one of his basketball players learn the fundamentals of beach volleyball.
All in all, it was a fun tournament to be at, and pretty awesome to see 65 men's teams and 56 women's open teams signed up to give it a shot. By the way, why are there almost always more men's than women's teams signed up? Its seemingly been that way at every AVP Next-type tournament we have been lucky enough to attend in 2020!
And where in the heck was JB Southpaw? :-)
