The Molten Invitational starts tonight out at Grand View. First look we will get at Jamestown, who I think are going to be really good this season. Ottawa is coming off a strong showing at the NCCAA Championship after only a couple practices before that tournament. Both play Grand View in what should be some fun, high-level, matches. Some of the matches that I am looking forward to seeing: Thursday, 1/28: #1 Grand View vs #11 Ottawa-AZ - 7:00pm (CST) Friday, 1/29: #8 Jamestown vs #11 Ottawa-AZ - 11:30am (CST) #1 Grand View vs #8 Jamestown - 7:00pm (CST) Molten Invitational Home Page

Thoughts on SXU’s first real test tonight against GTown? Should be a very good game. SXU seem to be the only team that can do anything in the CCAC. Tonight will show if they are good enough to hang with top teams from other conferences or if the whole conference is a flop

The Jamestown -- Ottawa AZ match was highly entertaining. After getting blown out in set 1, Ottawa AZ found its rhythm and won sets 2 and 3 before losing in 5. Really enjoyed watching the competition.

Grand View is the cream of the crop. Anxious for their matchups with MOBap and Park. Ottawa AZ looked top-ten to me. Jamestown just a shade better. I was kind of expecting more out of Georgetown - I’m pretty sure St X and Indiana Tech are good but I thought they’d sneak one of those out.

Grand View also picked up Danny Wong from UH, huge addition to an already stacked team.

Grand View is stacked for sure. After watching a good portion of the teams play so far, I would say they are the clear favorites. Park and Mo Bap look solid though so far.
Tier 1: Grand View
Tier 2: Park Mo Bap
Tier 3: Lourdes Campbellsville Jamestown Vanguard
Tier 4: Saint Xavier Ottawa-AZ Indiana Tech Life
We won't see Ben-Mesa play until Feb 12 against Hope International, so it's hard to say where they are, but they returned plenty of talent, and will likely be in that Tier 3.

Missouri Valley just gave notice to the rest of the Heart of America conference and NAIA, with a nice 5-set upset victory over Missouri Baptist tonight.

Missouri Valley just gave notice to the rest of the Heart of America conference and NAIA, with a nice 5-set upset victory over Missouri Baptist tonight. That is a really nice win for Missouri Valley. They have always had some solid talent, but have been so streaky. Let's see if they can keep the high level of play going into their next few matches. Also curious to see how Mo Bap responds in a couple days when they play Grand View. You wonder if they were looking ahead towards the next match.

Key Matches this "weekend":
St. Xavier vs Aquinas tonight. Grand View at MoBap and Goshen at Lourdes tomorrow. Goshen at Campbellsville and Ottawa AZ at AZ Christian Saturday.
This will be St. Xavier's first match with a team anywhere near the rankings/RV territory - interested to see what they can do - would also be a good comeback opportunity for Aquinas after being swept by Indiana Tech and Goshen last week.
GV and MoBap will be a fun one, though I'd expect a 3-4 set GV win; especially after the MoBap loss to Missouri Valley. And I'm just really interested to see Ottawa AZ again after they looked so good at Grand View last weekend.

Nice pair of wins by St. Xavier Thursday. Grand View looked terrific in sweeping Missouri Baptist today. Awesome to see the season ramping up.

Mo Bap seemed to have cancelled their trip up to the south side of Chicago to take on trinity and Saint Xavier. Potentially don’t want another loss to harm their at large bid after losing 2 in a week?

Potentially don’t want another loss to harm their at large bid after losing 2 in a week? I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Every team/conference is under unique restrictions this year. While that could have been the reason, there are several others more likely. Aquinas tested St. Xavier more than I anticipated - would have been interesting to see MoBap play them.

They showed stellar defense, holding Lourdes to a .113 hitting percentage and having 12.0 total blocks. Impressive effort.
