I really dislike the idea that a team can lose 2 sets and still win the match. It makes sets irrelevant if you can lose 2 sets, but then dominate in one set and win the whole match. I assume it is because they don't want athletes playing 5 set matches and getting exhausted, but why not just play 3 sets and whoever wins 2/3 is the winner or something like that? I'm assuming 3 sets is the standard so stats don't get affected (with some players playing 3 vs some players playing 5, etc) Players are always playing the same amount of sets. I think having the overall points winner win the match isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sets to 25 points is arbitrary anyways. They could just change the scoring to first to 75 but that's probably getting too much away from the core volleyball concept. I don't hate the idea of first to 75 actually, or first to 60 or whatever. Maybe first to 75, but you have to win by a 2 or 3 point margin? I know sets to 25 is arbitrary, but the idea that you can win 2/3 and still lose just bothers me.

I think they're overly complicating this thing. I like that they're making an effort to grow the sport but this might be too much. The point system needs to be simple. If volleyball fans have difficulty trying to understand how it works then how will the average viewer get what's going on?

For any change or start, there must be some sort of big change in the spectrum. The focus is the players, not city/team making the money/fame. Therefore, it has come to this. If no one was ever open to having newer/exciting ideas, then where does change/progress come from. Yes, it will be frustrating but no we can't stop being open minded and supporting these women. I understand there will be negativity involved especially at the very beginning. I hope if you're veteran fan, take your time to understand the game/scoring system...and then be able to explain it to more people and make sure there's opportunities for WOMEN in the future in this country. - from a Millennial Fan

Or, you can just watch and enjoy the matches and check what the scoring outcomes look like later. Is anyone really planning to try to follow the point system while the games are going on? I am just looking forward to watching good volleyball from athletes we rarely get to see in a professional setting.

I mean to the average viewer.... its going to be two teams playing volleyball. I think the points system is exciting and different. I mean something different has to be done to have a pro womens volleyball league in the US. It's not going to be for everyone, which is fine, regular volleyball isn't for everyone. There will be learning pains, for both the fans and AU.

Let's check back at the end of the season and see if this format has grown the game. I hope so.

I am just looking forward to watching good volleyball from athletes we rarely get to see in a professional setting. I think it would be nice to have a live scoring page, even if not shown or reported on TV. Especially for international fans who may only be tuning in for one specific player. I share your opinion if we’re talking about me personally having interest in watching, but I could see how many are disappointed to not track results in real time, given that’s actually more important than who wins the match, right? I’m grateful we have any representation of professional volleyball with quality players here in USA. I just hope that it can gain traction and viewership for the future.

Less viewership competition for this with the various NCAA postponements.

There will be learning pains, for both the fans and AU. Accessibility is key. I think AU is winning by showing the events on multiple platforms but I predict that they’ll lose by changing rules. How often do other sports change rules? Why is everyone including, FIVB, NCAA etc always changing rules? The rules, one way or another, aren’t the reason why pro leagues do/don’t work but they certainly don’t need to complicate things any further.
