It's kind of sad that I had to get this from Long Beach St. Beach VB's post rather than a news release or social post from the Big West... BUT IT'S OFFICIAL. Big West Spring sports is on-- and that includes Men's and Beach Volleyball! http://instagram.com/p/CKKhwA_MZYB

This is great. But the virus is out of control right now and this season may be tough.

This is great. But the virus is out of control right now and this season may be tough. Team health has always been a competitive factor. Training and good health discipline to avoid injuries, concussions, and infections, has always been a part of every program. Avoiding covid now added to avoiding colds, flu, pneumonia, mononucleosis, STDs, concussions, broken bones, torn cartilage, repetitive stress injuries, muscle strains and tears, ligament strains and tears, cuts and abrasions, mental health issues, and on and on. Team success has always been built on doing what is necessary to keep everyone healthy, on the court, and contributing.
For their age group and general lack of pre-existing conditions, covid carries about the same risk to them individually as severe flu. It's the risk of them spreading covid to others not so young and healthy, that requires team quarantines, and that risks their schedule and season. The answer is social distancing and wearing masks off the court, and make sure they have good diets with supplements that help keep their immune systems strong, and regular testing. It's debatable how effective those measures are, but they are about the only measures available until they can get vaccinated.
