You beat me to it. This is exactly the line up I would use, at least against the Bruins as it maximizes SC 's chances to steal a win at one of two pairs (2 and 3) we likely have no chance of winning with the current lineup. So here's the justification. Our 2 and 3 pairs are likely losses against ucla. Hallrgen and Harward are 1-4 against ucla and Scoles and Slater are not much better at 1-3. All the other pairs have winning records, the best being Dennis and Maple at the 4 pair with a 4-1 record. IMO the weak links on the team have been Hallgren and Slater. It makes sense to concede the 3 pair by moving Slater down and pair Harward with Scoles. IMO, Scoles plays better with Harward than she does with Slater. If Harward and Scoles can win at the two pairs, then we only need 2 wins among the 1, 4 and 5 pairs, all of which have winning records against ucla. It's really not much of a gamble as Harward and Scoles are a familiar pair Great line up, but what about making it stronger by doing what they did when they won all fist half of the season--put Tina with Slater or Tina with Halgren. Scoles and Harward at 2 and Kraft and either Halgen or Slater at 3. That gives you a much stronger 2 and 3. Harward is difficult because she has only really been able to play with Scoles. Splits up the 2 blockers and gives the whole team more of a balance. Sc got out coached against UCLA and Stein moving Van Winkle and Sparks to 3 made it tough. Hopefully Blanton will prepare these girls for their opponents and make sur the line up is better.

I think your lineup suggestion makes both the 2 and 3 pair stronger, for sure, but weakens the 1 pair a bit. Graudina and Kraft are playing well together and are 2-1 against Denanburg and Simo, winning the last two. But that being said, Graudina and Slater also beat the same bruin pair in the teams' first matchup this season, so you may be on to something if Blanton is willing to tinker with the lineup that much this late in the season. Kraft and Hallgren at the 3 would have a great chance of winning and so would Harward and Scoles at the 2 spot. Graudina and Slater would be a little iffy, but we do know they are capable of beating the bruins top pair. If no lineup change is made than I am afraid SC will lose both at the 2 and 3 spots as well as another another point coming from the 1, 4 or 5.

With Kraft at the #1, she can't move down to #3 because a player is not allowed to move more than 1 spot at a time, unless the rules are different heading into nationals.

Scoles and Harward at 2 and Kraft and either Halgen or Slater at 3. Enough with the Hallgren and Tina suggestion. Hallgren has 9 losses at the 3s and is a weak defender—she’s not going to the 1s to play defender with SC’s best blocker. Kraft is better and deserves the spot. The 2s are better with Scoles/Harward. Hallgren and Slater at the 3s is the wildcard. After that, the twins need to get their sh*t together. If they lose a third consecutive time to UCLA, maybe it’s time to insert a new look at the 5s if SC happens to play UCLA twice in Gulf Shores.

Unless there are some new COVID rules, lineups are locked once the tournament starts. Only injury substitutions are allowed and if you are pulled for injury you can't go back in a later match.

If youre right about the rules not allowing a drop of more than one spot, then the smartest move for SC is to move Harward up to pair with Scoles and Slater down to pair with Hallgren. Hallgren and Slater are not clutch players, IMO, so I would rather have them together and hope for the best while strengthening the 2 pair. I believe Scoles and Harward are stronger than Scoles and Slater. it will be interesting to see what Blanton does.

Halgren has never been given a chance with Tina and has had to play with Harward who is difficult and very up and down. Slater has proven over time to be successful and Kraft should be a primary blocker. At least have two great primary blockers separated and put defenders with them so you can win like you did all season long. Halgren has been playing defender and then thrown to blocker and back and forth. Anyone who plays with Tina will be amazing! Need coach Blanton to prepare these girls and not get out coached like he did against UCLA this past weekend. Don't think coach Anna would have let this happen or have the lineup that he does. Blanton has the most talented group out there, hopefully he will work to get this NCAA win.

Anytime there has been a sub, they’ve had to go with Halgren. She’s played with 6 different partners this year, whereas everyone else has played with 1-3. And, on top of all that, she’s had to switch between playing defense and blocking. She was doing just fine with Kraft, which was the lineup at the beginning of the season. That being said, it is clear to me that team Halgren/Harward really lack chemistry.... I would personally try 1. Graudina/Hallgren 2. Kraft/Harward 3. Scoles/Slater 4. Dennis/Maple 5. Nourse/Nourse or 1. Graudina/Kraft 2. Scoles/Harward 3. Hallgren/Slater 4. Dennis/Maple 5. Nourse/Nourse

Blanton sees Hallgren every day, so there is a good reason she has been at the 3 and has been used as a sacrificial lamb. I like your first lineup. But its probably too much too late. Had this lineup been used earlier in the season it would have been well tested by now with a lot of experience. I think the best option is the second lineup. It gives us a better chance to win at the 2. If we can get a victory at the 2 and the Nourses step up, then we should win it.
