Whew, good thing there are not rules that force students out of college athletics at 22 years old. USC basketball player Tahj Eaddy just crushed UCLA on Saturday with a last second shot and he’ll turn 25 this July. Utah and BYU allow their players to go on missions and regularly have players 24-26 years old, married with kids. Parents often hold their children back a grade so they’ll be more academically and athletically competitive. Rich parents can pay for extra coaching, tutoring to help with grades, travel to tournaments for exposure, etc. UCLA, Hawaii, FSU, LSU have huge recruiting advantages as public schools with lower tuitions for in state students. Life is not ‘fair’ in so many ways, but the strong survive and thrive. Being over 23 and still playing college athletics is kind of pathetic. Personally I was so glad to be done with college at 21..

When you go to a school competing for national championships, you know it’s going to be a tough road to playing time. Ask football players at Alabama or Ohio State or Clemson. USC, UCLA and FSU for beach are no different. So it’s not surprising that teams 6, 7, 8 at those schools could beat teams 1/2/3 at many other schools. It’s a choice. Be a big fish in a small pond, or try to crack the lineup at a top school and compete for a national championship. Cal is a good school, but seeing as they just lost at match at the 3s 21-6, 21-7 to UCLA, it’s not an option if you are interested in championships. Fsu does not belong mentioned with sc and ucla. Talk to me When they actually beat one of those teams when it actually matters.

And to add insult to injury, USC's two grad players were just named Pac-12 Pair of the Week. You okay over there kballer9? USC is really lucky that Covid happened and that they got a stud like Scoles. Harward isn’t that great for 2nd flight player. USC better hope they win it this year because losing Tina and Scoles and with a coach like Dain...

Nothing good going on in the UCLA thread so you decided to come troll here, insult young ladies calling them pathetic, and attack the USC coach?

What happened to Karina Myszkowski? Is she no longer on the team or opted out for the season?

Despite winning, I thought both Tina and Sammy looked pretty bad on serve receive. There was a period where Sammy shanked 4 or 5 balls in a row. Followed by Tina passing one off the court and the next into the net.
Good for them they have pretty amazing, effortless offense so despite running each other off the court to set the ball, they were still able to convert bad passes with good offense.
I was surprised at not just the result of the first contact, but the technique. Sammy kept getting caught high on serve receive not able to move her feet quick enough to take a step back on the deep serve and neither did a good job taking the middle ball.

Nice to see that Dennis/Maple had the best scores in both of the matches. Good to see the Lions gave the Trojans a good test..

This is correct and true to be done by age 21 for the college volleyball years.

Make a new thread for the age debate and leave it off of here, if y’all don’t mind. We have been around the block several times and won’t come to a resolution.

I agree with separate thread for the age / grad student debate.
But speaking of giving opportunities to “younger” players, I wonder if Coach Dain will take advantage of the Thursday meet against Cal State Bakersfield to start the 6th and 7th pairs. I know nothing about CS Bakersfield but they can’t be that good and likely the program is just starting out. It should be the equivalent of an exhibition match. I would sit 2 pairs of starters and keep 3 pairs to ensure the win.
My choices: Graudina-Slater - Sit out, competition would be worse than practice Harward-Scoles - Sit out, they’ve played enough to already have their groove on most of the time. 1. Hallgren-Kraft 2. Dennis-Maple 3. Nourse-Nourse 4. Hallgren-Kaiser 5. Bakos-Ebertin - Dreeuws is a senior so I chose Bakos over her. Exh. Dreeuws-Cummings
Any speculation? Don’t know how this fits into those sandbagging rules and whether there would be any penalty for the weekend match in Malibu. Harper Hallgren, Maja Kaiser and Mollie Ebertin have all started multiple matches in previous years and should be able to easily beat the Runners’ bottom two pairs.
