The '96 Olympics were in Atlanta where it is just as humid and hot, but everyone seemed to survive!

More details for follow in March/April, which at that time they will also give a definitive answer of whether spectators will be allowed. For now, athletes are not required to be vaccinated in order to participate. They will rely on masks and social distancing protocols.

Everytime I see this thread in bold, I have a mini heart attack on the spot 😅 But the torch Cermony is already on the way Seriously, can we change the name of this thread? It gets me every time, too! There is a lot of money invested in these Olympics, and I don't see it all being thrown away. I heard something about a quarantine hotel that they are going to send athletes who test positive to for them to be away from all the other athletes. If any country is going to pull this thing off, Japan is probably the best to do it. They always run great events, and it will all be organized well. I wouldn't mind if all of the major world sports, mainly basketball and soccer got taken off the docket for Tokyo. For most of the athletes there, the Olympics are their Super Bowl, but for other sports, winning gold isn't what they have been training for the past 5 years. I would take golf and tennis off, too, if I could. Those four sports right there would eliminate a lot of athletes who probably aren't that excited about going, anyway. Those sports aren't like swimming, where almost every athlete is entered in multiple events. By eliminating just basketball and soccer, you would be taking hundreds of athletes out of the village while only eliminating two medal events. That's what the IOC wants, fewer athletes competing for more medals.
