From being a follower of James from his Stanford and Pro days, from some of his latest Instagram posts it looks as he is transferring to play pro-beach volleyball. What are we expecting of him as he transitions to beach? Big block with great hands, could we see someone scooping him up for the AVP? It looked like he was playing some smaller tourneys with Frishman. Thoughts?

He is someone who has all of the foundational skills needed to succeed, but it’s a matter of how much time and energy he will put into learning the game at a high level. There have been many who have tried, but maybe not many as talented as Shaw. I’m absolutely rooting for the guy.

Awesome news! Turns 27 in March. Not only set, but has played some Opposite, which is good. It'll be a much easier time for him to find a good left side player. As a setter indoors, should have decent agility, Great bloodlines. from his Insta: ameswshaw "Out here on the ranch, it’s prep time for my first season of pro beach volleyball. And you know what that means...I’m hanging out with my two good pals, the 24kg kettlebell, and my @sproutliving Epic Protein blend. Of course. I can’t think of a better one-two punch to head into battle with. For a massive 20% discount on all things @sproutliving, head to the link in my bio or go to www.sproutliving.com/go/jamesshaw/ and use the code JAMES20 at checkout. We both win when you do (me being an affiliate and all)! Level up your supplement game! DO IT NOW!!!" He has a few clips of playing on there. His block looks big, and he looks fluid. I like that he is playing with Frish too, I think he's a smart player. #newhope

To continue this thread, what are the chances someone big picks him up during this free agency kind of vibe? Do you think he sticks with Frish and learns the game from him before trying to make big moves?

If he shows any potential, I'd expect a mad dash to play with him as soon as a team is eliminated from the Olympics. A 6'8 setter who is younger than Taylor Crabb? Either Crabb or Tri may want to grab him once their situation is resolved. Could be a younger, bigger Budinger in the beginning Id love to see him start the year with Partain or maybe Loomis. Frishman is a solid player but will likely get every serve in MDraw games.

Burik, Friend, Hagan Smith if healthy could be options? I'd like him with Loomis, a good vet to keep his attitude up while getting some Ls in the Qs this year.

He's got the genes.
How is it James has a wikipedia page and Don Shaw doesn't?
Maybe I'll start one when I have a minute.

I think Reid would be a really good choice if he would move off David Lee. Rosie on a comeback maybe? I agree with you on Loomis, but I wonder if Ty still practice full time?

This is great news. I actually think Frishman is a great partner to start out with. He’s got fantastic ball control, seems like a positive, upbeat guy, and there won’t be immediate pressure to win big.

But, I would like Shaw to get a partner that will make teams serve him. I think every serve will go Frish, unless Shaw can't pass at all. I'd also like to see him with a player that is dynamic enough to hit different tempo sets. Take advantage of Shaw's already built skills. It would be great for Shaw to be able to jump set almost every pass to have the hitting option.

Don't know a thing about Shaw, so interesting thread . . . I'm going to post something on indoor to beach as that is an interesting subject . . . It always SOUNDS "doable", but, as we've found out these past 4 years in politics, it doesn't always work out as planned . . .

James Shaw is signed up for the AVP Next in San Antonio at the end of the month with John Schwengel. Other notable pairings are Benesh/Drost, Connole/Roschitz, Webber/Cory, Samuels/Cox, and Amorim/Friend. 210beach.bracketpal.com/signup/139?
