Wow. Koerber is truly a game changer--not just because of her offense but because of the flexibility she gives the coaches (can play both pins and back row). Sophia Callahan is talented front row player as well (no one talks about her but they should). She and Stowell are very different--but with Grimmer, Livingston and Ballard-Nixon all returning (and now with Koerber)--we have four talented pins and can let the new recruits develop as freshman with no pressure to play (if they do great, but we aren't dependent on that). I am hoping that Stowell has back row abilities and that we see her in that capacity next year (her Dad was a wonderful player and guy). I am also very happy about the Reinert pick up--hoping it is an absolute dog fight for the libero and back row positions.

Wow! I thought we might get a DS transfer at some point, but never once considered anyone from Utah transferring to BYU. I figured Koerber was done with volleyball after changing her mind about coming back. And I also never thought of Gretchen Reinert transferring to BYU. I do remember that Jarom Jordan talked quite a bit about her and her dad and the connection they had with people from BYU during the two BYUtv broadcasts of the matches against Santa Clara to end the season. I wondered at that time if she might have fit in well at BYU, but I figured if she came back for an extra year, she would stay at Santa Clara.
My hope is that these two will be able to come in and push other players and make everyone better not just for next year but for the following years. You can never predict how team chemistry will work out though. We may get some transferring out. I guess we'll see how this shakes things up.

She's a convert who is majoring in communications and wants to be a sports broadcaster, and BYU has retaken its rightful place as the best program in the state. If she was LDS growing up, she probably would have committed to BYU out of high school.
Edit: I forgot that Koerber and Olmstead already have a relationship from their time together on the US Collegiate National Team.

Is everyone sure Gneiting is coming back to BYU? I mean, she's still on a mission, so who knows? But yes, everyone (e.g. broadcasters during BYU matches) seems to be pretty confident.

Odd that Koerber would go to a rival, but glad that she stayed in state.
This will be fun to watch.

BYU/Utah transfers in back to back years. Things are getting weird in the volleyball world.

Aretheougars a final four team now with Koerber? Well Utah wasn’t with her playing second fiddle to a better Drews. Why would Koerber now being the number one option amount to a program being Final Four caliber... Actually, BYU will have plenty of pins to choose from. Grimmer has done a standout job at Opp. Ballard-Nixon is coming back at OH and got the lions' share of the sets last season. Livingston will be a sophomore, and did a great job at OH when she was thrown into the mix after a MB injury that moved Dodson (a freshman) back to her previous MB position. And Dodson was expected to play OH all year until the MB injury, and could end up quite good at the position. So Koerber is one more pin to add to the depth, and make for some good competition at the pins.

And Koerber should help with the passing. BYU hit .302 as a team (fifth in the NCAA) with suspect passing. If Koerber, Reinert and/or the recruits can improve that area, BYU should be even better.
