Turkey released their training rosterWhat I wouldn't give for USAV to release a statement that is THAT detailed with the whole two groups split up and what their goals are. Ugh....I just hate how in the dark we are with USA. Having to troll instagram stories and scrounge for even the slightest bit of news, and yet, we as fans want volleyball to grow in the states. How can we do that if USAV doesn't get the word out there and attempt to grow the fanbase. I'm. Irritated.

Anyone know who "Passion Sign" the opposite is? She's on Turkey's roster. Also...interesting that Turkey will play their "A" players for all three tournaments. That'll be exhausting.

They have a very young team on the whole and they seem to like the VNL. Also, as stated in the linked article that reveals their roster/plans for the season, they really want to make it out of Pool B at the OG's. They failed to do that in London in 2012. They did quite well during the 2019 European Championships and rallied to qualify in the CEV Olympic Qualifiers. They are only going to get better and are a VERY good blocking team. So I can see them placing as high as 2nd in the pool if they play lights out. However, they usually underperform at the big tournaments historically. Will they break that trend this time?

That's just a google translation. It's Tutku Yuzgenc. She played for Karayollari this past season. She'll play for Fenerbahce next season

Although, I suppose they could lose two and still finish 2nd.

I could see them beating both Italy and the USA. They would have to play pretty error free but it's possible. China is the top team IMO. But, it is the Olympics. Anything can happen. Look at the Dutch during Rio. If you would have told me they would end up 2nd in Pool B I would have told you to lay off the sauce. I fully didn't expect them to make it out of the pool but, alas, they over performed and Italy went home packing. Now, Italy is LIGHTYEARS better this quad then in 2016 and is only going to get even better. I think Russia might end up going home early this time around but we will have to see how the teams look during the VNL before we can assess who looks like what after a two year hiatus.

What really worries me is that the USA is going up against 4 other teams that play a very different style of volleyball. Now, that could play right into our laps and we finish top of the pool again and our medal chances greatly increase that way. However, it is a very real possibility that the USA crashes out in pool play or, crosses Serbia/Brazil in the Quarterfinals. Those scenarios are less than ideal but, maybe the team need to get their noses bloodied before they kick it into higher gear. I just know that the team hasn't looked dominant this quad at all. I worry that Karch's system is just not going to do the team any favors with where the game as a whole is headed. More and more teams just have huge OOS garbage disposal hitters who can score no matter the set. By not having anyone on the team that can fill that role, the team had better be in system at all times. I'm cautiously optimistic but there is no reason why a team that is as stacked as the USA should struggle to be in the mix with the top teams and consistently playing for gold medals like in past quads. I just feel like Karch waiting too late to introduce younger talent earlier in this quad might come back to haunt the team.

My bad, I kind of went off topic there. Just had some thoughts. Cannot wait for this tournament and to see what everyone looks like.

Im pretty sure I have a different viewpoint than most on this... but I think USA Fast is actually probably the best thing that could happen for this quad. We don't have the OOS hitter that everyone else does right now. But no other country (bar Japan) passes as well as we do. I would be shocked at a group stage exit.

I also am basing my thoughts on how the team looked in 2019 which was really a mess over all. That being said, the younger players have had two seasons more of experience and it will nice to see what everyone looks like again vs some top competition. I hope China brings their A-team. I was hoping Serbia would too but I get why they are resting their stars. It's going to be a long international season.

Since I asked the question, my opinion would be that they can't beat any of them.
Italy is super solid right now, I feel like they're practically unbeatable. Egonu can score like 50 points in a game and she doesn't really make errors like she used to. Oh, the good old days...
Turkey is weaker than the USA in every aspect (serving, hitting, blocking, receiving). I do agree with you that it seems like Russia is gonna go home early this time.
The thing with the dutch prior to rio is that they already did have good players (Buijs/Sloetjes were in dream team for euro 2015, and I think their libero was very solid). So they do have leaders on court but I'm not really seeing it for Turkey. So although they were considered less favourite than China, Serbia which they beat, you could still see the result going either way.
Karakurt's still too streaky and Cansu just becomes like a child who did mischief whenever Guidetti talks to her. The Turkish players in the league play next to superstars which lifts up their level. Once the superstars are gone or on the other side of the net, it's like removing a foundation from a house.

My bad, I kind of went off topic there. Just had some thoughts. Cannot wait for this tournament and to see what everyone looks like. Unfortunately you won't see Serbia and Italy's main squads, and if you think that Jenny will show you all her cards in the VNL I've a bridge in Jiangmen to sell you. Maybe Turkey will take it seriously.
