#16 BYU (7-1, 6-1 WCC) at (RV) Pepperdine (7-0, 7-0 WCC) Time: 7pm PT / 10pm ET Live Stream: wccsports.com/watch/?sid=456262Live Stats: stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=326462Impact Players to Watch BYU
Taylen Ballard Nixon - OH Whitney Bower - S Kennedy Eschenberg - MB PepperdineRachel Ahrens - OH Shannon Scully - OH Meg Brown - MB NotesThis is a huge series for both teams, but especially Pepperdine, who also has a match at Baylor on Sunday. The Waves were one of the first teams out in the NCAA Tournament in 2019. BYU, Pepperdine, and San Diego are the clear frontrunners to win the WCC but also potentially receive at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament. All three of those teams are undefeated at this point. Pepperdine has not beaten BYU since 2011 - since Olympian/World Champion Kim Hill was playing for the Waves. That 2011 season was the most successful in school history, Pepperdine was up 2-1 on USC in the Regional Final that year, a set away from the Final Four, but ended up losing in 5.

This should tell us quite a bit about both teams, as it's the biggest challenge to date for both. I could see either team winning both matches or splitting. For BYU, Eschenberg and Grimmer have shown up in every match they've played. Grimmer in particular is the most improved player on the team. Ballard-Nixon, Dodson and Livingston have been more up-and-down. I think Bower has improved a lot from her freshman year, as BYU is quietly hitting .329 on the season (7th in the NCAA). Granted, they haven't played the most imposing competition, but I've been impressed with her decision making and leadership this year.

BYU saved 5 set points so far. T/O Pepperdine, up 24-20.
Get a good first ball and feed Meg Brown!
