trojansc Do you want to just revise the thread title and keep this same thread for tonight's 7pm rematch? It might be more fun than starting a new thread from scratch.

Pepperdine won the serving passing matchup with conviction. I have watched all Pepperdine matches this year and that was hands down their best serving performance. Coaches made some adjustments and used their bench at key times to sub in and serve to keep the pressure on.
They used Dyer to serve for M2 and she served tough and dug a super hard hit in the angle which resulted in a score. They let Hames serve for Rachel (she usually subs in after Rachel serves) and she went on a few service rolls. And Scully and Maddog were successful as usual.
Have seen just clips of BYU this year, but was surprised at the lack of passing. Not just one player, but the OHs, all the DS’s and even the L really struggled. If they can’t get their passing on track (and I can’t see it improving enough from where it was last night), they are going to be hard pressed to get a W.

Hopefully, BYU will play better. I'm not prepared to write them off after one bad match. If they get thumped again, then I think they'll have to find a way to beat San Diego at least once to make the tournament. Prior to the season, I thought it was going to be more of a development year anyway with such a young team. And even though they crushed my alma mater last night, I'm always in favor of improvement across the WCC, so good for Pepperdine.

BYU's passing this year had been pretty good, I think (I don't have access to the VolleyMetrics data). They were hitting .329 on the season going into the match. That said, Pepperdine is easily the best team that they've played so far. I want to see what happens tonight before passing a verdict. For example, on the men's side last year, BYU really roughed up #1 Hawaii on the road in the first match, but Hawaii rallied to win the second match in five. Edit: Actually, I was concerned about Ballard-Nixon's passing specifically. She was aced five times in one set against LMU last week.

I pivoted to Pepperdine in PTW after last night's spanking, so BYU should split the series tonight.

12-8 BYU in the first. Currently a pause in play for...something.

BYU timeout at 16s. Waves have settled down a bit after getting beat badly in serve/pass.

Why is Dodson listed as an outside hitter?

Why is Dodson listed as an outside hitter? She was playing outside at the beginning of the season
