@ Baylor (16-4, 13-3 Big 12) at Houston (12-2, 8-0 AAC)
Date: Thursday, March 18th Time: 6pm CT
Impact Players: Yossiana Pressley - OH - Baylor Hannah Sedwick - S - Baylor Abbie Jackson - OH - Houston Torie Frederick - L - Houston Match NotesThese two teams met in 2019, with Baylor winning 3-1 in Waco. The Cougars are improved and are vying for an NCAA Tournament bid and their route via the AAC automatic qualifier bid will likely run through the only other team who hasn't lost in the AAC -- UCF -- a team who has only lost 1 match of the season, in 5 sets at Florida State. But a win here, a very tall task against a very talented team, and an at-large bid would likely be guaranteed for Houston should they not win the AAC Tournament. Baylor finally has Hannah Sedwick back healthy and in a 5-1 as of Baylor's last match at Texas State that the Bears dominated. They also have the returning National Player of the Year in Yossiana Pressley. Besides losing to Kansas to open the season, Baylor has won 16 matches while losing three to the same team -- Texas. Houston is led by sophomore Abbie Jackson who puts up 5.40 points a set and carries a heavy offensive load. They run a 5-1 and often pass just two the backrow. Libero Torie Frederick has been fantastic in her first year taking the jersey and covers a lot of court. David Rehr is the reigning American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Both of Houston's losses this year come in 5 sets.

A few days early for this thread... but a massive opportunity for Houston and the American Athletic Conference!

A few days early for this thread... but a massive opportunity for Houston and the American Athletic Conference! You make it sound like the match-up could be close. There is no way Houston beats Baylor. They are clear underdogs and Baylor is just too good. They destroyed Texas State now that Sedwick is back running a 5-1 (the team hitting over .300 and 4 players were in double digit kills). Even if Pressley didn't play at all, my money would still be on Baylor.

Even if Pressley didn't play at all, my money would still be on Baylor. I do think the match could be close, but Baylor is obviously the heavy favorite, as I stated. Doesn't change that this is a rare opportunity for a Houston team that is clearly better than last year (who actually pushed Baylor more than most teams in the non-conference last year, Baylor's only other dropped set was to Wisconsin). I know you're a Baylor fan, but your team is certainly not invincible. And I would caution putting too much stock into the Texas State match, Kansas wiped the floor with the Bobcats and beat them by a bigger margin than even Baylor did. Jackson also went for 18 kills on .273 last year at Baylor. I wouldn't put it past her having a big match again. Obviously, I would prefer Pressley on my side of the net. But Baylor could also shut her down and it could be a short match. We'll find out. Sedwick is looking better, but if Houston actually brings service pressure (Texas State didn't) it's a much different look. In system with McGhee being more offense and VDM, yeah, it could be a quick match. I'm hoping for a good one and Houston can get even a little more credit than 'no way'. I would always be careful to say 'no chance', no matter who the opponent is, you're only inviting an upset :-)

Houston leads the series 30-6 really? What the hell A significant majority of the matches would have been back in the Southwest Conference days.

Yeah, times definitely change, and the Big 12 is a good example. I know Nebraska never lost to Kansas in 88 meetings. But, the last meeting also had the best Jayhawk team that Nebraska has ever faced.

Houston is going with Kendall Haywood on the RS tonight -- a converted MB who mostly runs slides.
