For Stanford:
Stanford holds a 56-16 advantage in the all-time series with Washington. The Huskies won the most recent meeting between the teams - a four-set victory in Maples Pavilion on Sept. 29, 2019. The Cardinal swept the season series against Washington in 2018.Freshman Elena Oglivie was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on March 23 for her efforts against Arizona State last weekend. The libero averaged 4.88 digs per set against the Sun Devils, registering 18 digs in a sweep and matching her career-high of 21 on Sunday. The Honolulu native has posted double-digit digs in seven consecutive matches.
TOP OF HER CLASS: Meghan McClure has been named a top 30 candi-date for the Senior CLASS Award, presented to a student-athlete who excels in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition. The science, technology and society major is also a recent recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
For Washington:
Sunday's match will be Senior Day for the Dawgs, who will recognize senior Maria Bogomolova during a pre-match ceremony. "Boga" has been instrumental in Washington's serving success during her career with 49 aces and has been a selfless and caring teammate and the most passionate Dawg.
Washington remains in second-place in the Pac-12 with a 13-3 record, trailing Washington State with a 10-2 mark that is slightly better percentage-wise. The two teams were scheduled to clash last week, but the series had to be canceled due to Covid-19 developments withing the WSU program and the matches will not be made up. Utah and Oregon are right on UW's tail as the Utes are 12-4 and the Ducks are 11-3, with UCLA in the picture at 12-6. Last week was the first time the Huskies have had matches canceled this season. UCLA, Arizona, and Cal are now the only schools that have played their full schedule thus far.
Stanford has been the team hit hardest by the pandemic. Due to county restrictions, the Cardinal were only able to begin practicing at the end of January, canceling their first four matches. To date, Stanford has played just eight matches, going 2-6. Last week, Stanford swept Arizona State at home but dropped the rematch in five sets. Besides the pandemic, Stanford also lost one of the best senior classes in history which produced three NCAA titles in four years. Senior Meghan McClure remains one of the best all-around hitters in the Pac-12, averaging 3.00 kills per set, 0.32 aces, and 2.84 digs per set. Freshmen Caitie Baird and McKenna Vicini have excelled in the limited season. Baird posts 3.33 kills/set and Vicini is hitting .323 with 1.74 kills/set.
