I asked this question the past couple years, and I just wanted to see what has changed. What outdoor ball do you all prefer? The areas I play, the Spaulding and Optx is the preferred ball. AVP America has taken over a lot of the tournaments, so they are using the Wilson for tournament play. I think both are ok, but I prefer to play withe the Mikasa VLS300, but everyone I play with seems to hate that ball. There's been a few new additions over the past year. So, if you were given a choice to play with any ball, what would it be?

Spaulding KOB - still the best! For whatever reason, I cannot handset that ball. I can bump set it more accurately though.

Same as last time, I've played with the Spaulding KOB the most but I do have some love for the Wilson and the Mikasa.
The Wilson models are solid overall and I do think the Optix is a bit harder to hand set compared to the OG Wilson or the Spaulding or the Mikasa. The Optix seemed a lot smoother when I played with it last Summer/Fall in leagues but they might have needed more breaking in.
I love the float you can get on the Mikasa though.
What's the difference between the standard Mikasa and the KOB Mikasa?

I can’t answer this personally but, every single top level player I talk to every day here in hermosa beach prefers the mikasa. They do nothing but complain about that Wilson ball. Lol
Very strong indications that after this Quad the FIVB will switch to Wilson which nobody is happy about

As always, I still prefer the ball closest to the service zone. That's the one I'm going to pick up, that's the one I'm going to serve at you, and that's the one I'm going to beat you with.

It’s all about money. Wilson has begun signing foreign players and have publicly stated they are going to be throwing a lot of cash at the FIVB. Cash is king. The FIVB just signed a $300 million dollar deal and is restructuring, so....Wilson sees what they want to do. Most players have already resigned to having to switch next year

The NBA switch, yea they listened. This is not the NBA. Personally, I felt the Spalding KOB was a great ball with an old-school AVP feel. It jumpserved and played so well in the wind. I get that the heaviness was not ideal on the shoulder, but when you are young, who cares? Outside of grass, it is really a non-factor now.

Let’s put something quantitative rather than speaking generally! Sandcast hypes up the Wilson all day, so I took that as a preference of both Travis and Tri, but maybe that’s just money talking. Also hearing Carambula talk about how much more he can do with the Wilson vs. Mikasa was a strong indicator for me. Every US player who plays internationally always gripes about missing AVPs and says AVPs are the best events hands down. I always assumed the ball had something to do with this in addition to proximity, crowd, rivalry, and less Monster Block chants.

"The Wilson roundtable show with Stafford Slick, the McKibbin Brothers, and Tri Bourne" Yea, I would say the Sandcast hype is a little bit about a money/sponsorship opportunity.

A ball by definition is supposed to be round. The Spaulding ball has "edges." This disqualifies it from being a ball, and therefore should not be used in volleyball.
Hand setting a ball cleanly is fairly straightforward, especially now. Hand setting a cube will forever be a mystery.
Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk

Otherwise, spot on.
