She lives north of Peoria. She is already away from southern Illinois by over 100 miles.

Most people in southern Illinois would consider "north of Peoria" as northern Illinois.

And when I was growing up on the west side of Chicago I considered Joliet downstate.

I am encouraged by what I have read recently about the uncertainty of AD Whitman's support for a downtown Champaign hockey arena. A hockey arena that would be the future home of Fighting Illini volleyball, wrestling, and men's and women's gymnastics. To my mind, these 4 programs would be sacrificed for the sake of the U of I beginning a men's hockey program. The program that would be most negatively affected by a hockey arena being used for other sports would be volleyball. Huff Gym currently provides a great home court advantage for the Illini that would be lost in a hockey arena. A new facility is definitely needed, but I would most like to see a facility such as Ohio State's or Indiana's new venues. I-L-L!

As arguably the most popular female sport at Illinois, they need their own space like Ohio State and Indiana. A practice facility would be nice too. Other sports are getting them. Kind of surprised there has not been more investment into volleyball. Where are our wealthy volleyball donors at?

Kind of surprised there has not been more investment into volleyball. Where are our wealthy volleyball donors at? That’s an oxymoron question. Wealthy & volleyball in the same question. Are all the older fans that attend living off of social security and can’t afford to donate? What about the people here putting your pocketbook where your mouth is and open them up?

The current Ubben upgrade will cost $40M. The Indiana volleyball facility cost $17M, but seats only 3000. Big enough for Indiana, not big enough for Illinois volleyball. Regardless, we are a pittance by comparison. Between volleyball, wrestling, men’s and women’s gymnastics surely there are some fans and alums out there who could make meaningful donations. What concerns me is that the athletic department does not appear to be thinking about even the possibility of a facility for Olympic sports (do we still have a fencing team?) other than in conjunction with men’s hockey. I have nothing against hockey, but sharing a facility with them is simply a bad idea. I have to believe that if Whitman put his mind to it, he could figure out a way to raise $20M to $25M to build a building suitable for the sports currently housed at Huff. Indiana can figure it out and we cannot?

Jimmy John...the Illini Nation turn their lonely eyes to you. And I have personally bought enough #11s to fund it. Step up to the service line, dude.

I am a huge fan of Illinois AD, Josh Whitman. I do not believe the University could have a better leader of its athletic department than the former Illini football player. In his 4 years as AD, Whitman's ability to secure funding for athletic facility upgrades on campus has been remarkable. Let's hope he sees the importance of a volleyball venue at Illinois that allows the Illini to compete toe-to-toe with other top programs in the B1G and the country.

Y'all may have seen this one but I wanted to share it anyway. Kuper's and Diana's reactions in the footage are pretty great.

When she becomes an All-American, as I believe she will, she will still be shaking her head when this video is shown.

Congratulations to Michelle Bartsch-Hackley and Jordyn Poulter on winning the Volleyball Nations League tournament. MBH was the tournament MVP and Jordyn was named the tournament's best setter.
