Brown Named Big Ten Setter of the Week
Congrats to "D" Brown on her first ever Big Ten Setter of the Week Honors! She doesn't get a ton of notoriety but she's been a rock for the Illini, bringing good floor defense, net presence, reliable serving, and leadership in addition to her solid setting. Here's the readout from the Big Ten press release: Setter of the Week Diana Brown, Illinois Jr. – S – Columbus, Ohio – St. Francis DeSales – Major: Molecular & Cellular Biology • Named MVP at the Illinois State Redbird Classic after pacing Illinois to a trio of sweeps against Missouri, ISU and North Texas last weekend • Averaged 11.44 assists and 1.89 digs per set while guiding the Fighting Illini to a .319 team hitting percentage for the tournament • A two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten selection (2019, 2020) • Collects her first career Setter of the Week plaudit • Last Illinois Setter of the Week: Jordyn Poulter (Oct. 29, 2018)

Lets get 2 W this week! Thinking if we would have beaten CO we would be ranked this week.

Weve moved up to 31 on RPI futures (from 37). We’d be a higher if we won against CO. Updated win loss of 19-12 from 17-14.

And as Coach Tamas mentioned in his most recent interview, the powers that be are interested in scheduling more "Border War" contests with Mizzou in various sports. The men's basketball "Border War" matchup has been very fan popular for many years now. That "Border War" you're referring to is called "Braggin' Rights". Has been for a while

Not what I was hoping for. Thought it would be 3-0, even with Buzz…

5 sets vs the worst team in the big ten... at least they won.

Two positives for me were the play of Cooney and Nunge. Nunge was taking the most aggressive swings I have seen from her. Glad she was able to come back to the area where she once lived and do well.

The ball control is still just so concerning.

It might be interesting if the match stat sheet included back row attack attempts.

Also Colorado got mopped by Wash St yesterday 3-0. I know people like to say we're missing Bruna and Ellie so it's tough. But would they really be doing any better than Nunge? Nunge has been impressive. Don't get why Cooney and Terry both play back row if they never set the back. Don't have better defenders on the bench? Go recruit some.

I liked what announcer/commentator Tortorello-Nelson at the Iowa match had to say about 6 rotation OH's. Paraphrasing of course, but she commentated that college vb coaches are scouring the country (and outside the country as well) for 6 rotation OHs. I do not remember her giving the reasons for this common search for 6 rotation OHs. Those on VT who are much more vb astute than I can list the reasons for this. Not wanting to burn substitutions is one. For Megan Cooney who has exhausted her eligibility after this season, I believe Tamas is doing what he can do for her personal benefit to make her a more complete player. If she has an ambition to play professionally, Cooney needs to become the best passer she can be. In my humble opinion, Megan's passing has improved markedly. Her returning for her fifth year has made Illinois a better team than it would be without her. I am glad she came back for whatever her reasons were. If you are a Raina Terry fan as I am, you should want her to become the most complete OH she can be as well.

I don't know that I agree with this notpriddy (COIF) because she is currently in one of the best Speech Pathology graduate programs in the country. This program is 2-3 years so if she is just planning on dropping out to go pro, then that could be a possibility. But I just don't see her as that type. Who knows though, you may be right. Tamas' allegiance is to the University and to win games. Not to developing the potential of a future pro player.
