Huge win. So happy for the coaches and team. Depending on who wins in the Twin Cities tonight, Illinois could be tied for third place in the Big Ten.

A warning to btn+ subscribers - if you start watching on btn+ and are behind live action, when the live streaming ends your delayed streaming also ends and you will miss the end of the match, in my case from about 15s in the 4th set. . Grrrr. Knowing what I know now, this was a match I really wanted to see the finish. Learning of the huge win helped me get over it. Raina Terry is becoming the player we all knew she could be. Love watching her flying out of the back court. Swanson and Collins should be particularly appreciative as it freezes the block just enough. This afternoon our middle was more effective than any other match this season. Huge win. My expectations are going up!
One question. When we scored match point, did the loud homer PSU announcer have a complete meltdown?

Swanson hit .500 against Rutgers & .727 against PSU. Don’t forget she matched up against 3x AA Hord.

Finally ranked in the coaches poll at #25. Interesting to note our record, both overall and against top 25 teams is virtually identical to PSU, ranked #15 this week. Now we need to build on last week.

Heading into November, Illinois now 16-7 overall, 8-4 conference with RPI #31 (https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/volleyball-women/d1/ncaa-womens-volleyball-rpi). Turn it up Illini !!! Nebraska Minnesota Indiana Ohio State At Indiana Maryland At Michigan At Michigan State Illinois RPI improves to #27. www.ncaa.com/rankings/volleyball-women/d1/ncaa-womens-volleyball-rpiIm a little worried our RPI might drop at the end of the season with those lower BIG 10 teams

Im a little worried our RPI might drop at the end of the season with those lower BIG 10 teams I’ll be happy just beating all of them. Michigan and Maryland have their own tournament hopes on the line and will be especially hungry. Winning 2 of 3 from NU, Minnesota and tOSU would be a nice bonus, and we wouldn’t have to worry about RPI.

NLI is a week away -- anyone with a quick refresher on who we are signing? Unless something has changed I think our 2022's are: Sophie Stephenson - 6'2" - Outside Hitter - Seattle, WA Cari Bohm - 6'4" - Middle Blocker - Ann Arbor, MI Bianca May - 5'8" - Setter - Orland Park, IL

Another abysmal showing by our OH’s and OPP - hitting .082, .138 & .174. So many hitting errors The announcers were kind to the Illini hitters in their commentary, I thought. The female announcer was frequently excusing some of the hitting errors by describing the Illini hitter as trying to go high hands and missing or the Illini hitter trying to use the outside hand of the Rutger blocker in an attempt to swipe the ball out of bounds and being unsuccessful. I am old enough to remember past Ilini outsides like Jocelyn Birks and Colleen Ward who could reliably succeed vs. an opponent's well-formed block and excellent back court defenders. I don't credit the Illinois coaching so much in those days for the success of those outstanding hitters, as I do the natural talent of Birks and Ward. There really is no coaching substitute for accumulating naturally talented athletes. I agree and IMO it's hard to overstate the importance or complexity of recruiting for success.

I wonder who we have in the pipeline after that. Need some good hands and height. 5'8" setter in the Big Ten won't cut it.

In reading the reminiscence regarding Birks, Bartsch, Ward and so on, if we could figure out a way to combine Hambly's recruiting with Tamas' coaching...although I do believe Tamas' recruiting will gradually improve over time. An upgrade in locker room, training facilities and air conditioning Huff wouldn't hurt either.
