Some good OH’s in the portal! Would love to get one to add some depth. Hope we have as scholie available. I would think we do with Mica leaving earlier than expected. Not sure how the breakdown on scholie’s is with the team.

I think Illinois has lots of potentials to become a contender. Their middle blockers were very solid this year among their libero and setter. I think what they do need to do is to find some sense of communication when playing. They did not really play like a team this year which was their downfall.

Yeah, but isn't part of the fun to speculate... thats what gets my excitement for the future of Illinois volleyball going... and your first sentence makes my point exactly. Mosher isn't coming to illinois to sit on the bench, and if she doesn't outplay Brown, she'll be forced to do something else to find playing time. And if she doesn't outplay Brown for the set job and doesn't see playing time elsewhere, she might not be happy sitting on the bench. Especially if Brown stays 3 more years. My main point being that this Covid year is gonna have some ramifications for a couple years. The covid bonus year is a wild card and for any current student athlete that redshirted, they could be playing volleyball for two seasons worth of graduate school (and a lot of full-time masters programs can be completed in two years). As of the below tweet video from October, Diana said she's on the pre-med track. I don't know if medical school is too demanding to play D1 volleyball concurrently- I don't recall hearing of a volleyball player who was also in medical school and I feel like that's one of those things that commentators and coaches would make a point of saying. So I see a scenario where fall 2021 could be her last season, despite having two additional years of eligibility. In that case, a Mosher 2021 redshirt could give her the potential of four seasons setting the Illini. Just throwing that out there since we're speculating. I don't think Diana will take her extra year and will focus on school. Especially if there is no money available for the additional year.

I'm not convinced that Mica is a better setter than Brooke. I've watched a lot of film of Mica as a HS and freshman at AU. She did not connect with her hitters. She was an athletic player but not a natural setter. Brooked is a very aggressive player. She will challenge herself to set the balls that a lot of setters wouldnt think about. She also is very aggressive at the net whether it is hitting or blocking. I think Mosher can run a 5-1 or a 6-2 where she hits at opp. She is a great all around player. I specifically said hitting not setting. Also USA volleyball seemed to think Mica was good enough to make the USJNT because of her versatility as a setter and hitter. I've not seen enough of Brooke especially recently, but I do think she will be a very good setter for Illinois, but I do not see her hitting. Have you seen her hang time? She is a great hitter. I'm not taking away credit for Mica but she was underwhelming when she started college. She did not do great as a freshman at Auburn, she had location issues a lot with her hitter. Being in the USA gym doesnt mean anything once you start college.

That “playing like a team” was not isolated to the Illini. It’s instructive that both teams in the tourney final played a fall season and the resulting larger number of matches.

I assume when she was #9 she was setting a 5-1 for her club team and #22 was a 6-2 for her high school team. Her club team's offense may have been at least as fast as the Illini were at times last year. She seems to have a heavy arm, but she is not all that high when she hits. She will not be able to hit down like she was hitting in the video when she gets to college. Before we get all giddy, hitting against high school blockers is not like hitting against a B1G block. Regardless, she looks good and will hopefully help with some of our weaknesses next year.

Mosher set and hit for FC Elite at GJNC last weekend. Set in the back row, hit on the right in the front.
FC Elite made it to the Gold bracket in Open but lost in the first round to the eventual champion, Premier Nebraska.

Per her social media, Eske is transferring to pursue a collegiate career in beach volleyball. Back row gets even thinner. Thanks Alyssa for her contributions. I'm sure she played a vital role in helping Kuper advance herself as the bro. But I assume this means even a clearer path to playing time for Barnes

Barnes was going to play over Eske either way.
