A few years ago, I remember the call not including the bottom of the net. Even though this call favors Texas, I still dislike that the bottom of the net is called. Doesn’t impact the play at all. I guess it increases the athleticism required for the game but still. It's a really important rule for lower age groups however. You have to keep the wild young ones from running under the net or you'll run out of ankles on your roster. |

I guess you’re right in that it does help player protection. |

I guess it increases the athleticism required for the game but still. In FIVB rules, for a while they allowed net contact at the bottom of the net. It was a bad rule, and they changed it back. That contact has always been illegal for the NCAA. |
