I thought Glenn played with ease last night. I really wanted to see her stay in the game a bit longer to see her serve, but alas. Miyabe's play was a bit more tentative when she returned, meaning she couldn't bend her knee as much. Like mcmike mentioned, it will interesting to see tonight's lineup. I agree with this. And I'll echo what some other posters have mentioned about how subbing in Glenn might be as much about giving Miyabe's body some rest from the grind of the back row so that she can be as fresh as possible (while still less than 100%) in the front. It's hard not to be upset about the tough breaks in regard to injury. The gophers have had their struggles with play to begin with this year. Had they remained healthy, they had a legit chance to be a spoiler in their bracket. I just don't see any way forward for that now. As bad as I feel for CC (whatever her reason for being out, I'd expect she's devastated for herself and her teammates), I particularly sad for Samedy. She stayed an extra year, and potentially losing her last career college match at home to an unranked team in the round of 32 is a rough way to go out. And it will put in an enormous dent in the possibility of her garnering POY honors, which she deserves. So unfortunate. Why do I like sports?

Suppose it has to be Glenn. Has Skylar Gray played at all this year? She's really the only option. I wish our roster was larger. With a couple injuries and three players who haven't seen court time, just feels so thin. Miyabe's been a great super sub at all positions these last couple years now she's a starter so she can't be the answer. Skylar played 6 points of set 3 vs. St. Thomas.

I was expecting to see Glenn take the DS subbing role last night and was quite surprised to see Miyabe playing 6 rotations. I was concerned that Miyabe would get run down in a long match, especially with the knee brace she was wearing. I would expect to see more of Glenn tonight, if CC is out again. I wonder if the decision to keep Landfair on the bench and play for a redshirt year is one that they are regretting at this point?

OKay..can we start SPECULATING should Miyabe not be able to play this evening? Are we seeing the pressure for these players becoming too much for some to handle at critical times? I for one think we might be. It got a little rough last night at times, but considering the circumstance Miyabe did great. Once again being asked to contribute in ways she has not had to do all season. The only two players on the bench that are available and HUGH WOULD PUT IN are probably Rubright and McMen. I don't feel Glenn can handle the pressure and that is why we have seen very little of her most of this season. When we have, it hasn't been for too many plays. Has Rubright or Husemann played OH? If not, then the only other player is Shaff and that would mean McMen would be setting. I would kindly say that maybe you should pump your brakes before SPECULATING. Not sure why you think the pressure might be getting to Miyabe when she just played a solid first round match, got injured, and came back to finish out the game. That doesn't seem like someone overwhelmed by the pressure to me. That being said, I am interested to see what tonight's lineup will look like. Wasn't thinking about Miyabe when speculating about pressure.

I've only watched last night's replay for MN receiving in ro1 where the passing was not terrific. What was the general quality of MN's serve reception otherwise? I assume ok, because our hitting % didn't suffer. As previously noted Wenaas, with a weaker block, was hitting above her season avg. The assumption being Shaff WAS getting her sets she could drive.
If MN has a lot of trouble with FBSO it could be a grueling defensive B1G-like struggle. If this is the case the skies would be darkening making the path to Madison more tenuous.

Skylar played 6 points of set 3 vs. St. Thomas. And she brought out the alternate libero jersey...so she is in consideration for a sub. All of the DS players bring out their alternate-color “libero” jersey, every single match.

Congrats to Illinois for their big upset of Kentucky. Perhaps some of their Big 10 magic can rub off on the Gophers.

Also, that's 6 B1G teams into the Sweet 16 this year!

Rewatched match point. Don't think Ellie tweaked anything but that was a weird ending.

The sky is not falling
In fact, the ceiling looks higher
1 Our serving is tough and opponents aren't getting the passes that let them run middle quicks 2. Shaff is upping the tempo to the left pins and opponents aren't getting the kind of walls we were seeing during the B1G campaign. 3. We are not sending a host of free balls over for the opponents to transition into kills
otoh (a smaller hand) Myers on back slides: TRY DOWN THE LINE. You are being blanketed cross court Husemann & Myers: NO PRISONERS ON OVERPASSES. Put it on the floor... WITH PREJUDICE
