As alluded to, this assistant coach mentioned has been a toxic addition to this program. Eve and Tyler absolutely ran the show. Eve was blount and downright mean at times, but the players respected her, valued her, and knew she was knowledgeable. Tyler was also pretty tough, but he also was personable with the players. Joe was ultimately in charge, but he left player development up to Eve and Tyler and Joe pretty much supervised and designed practices, a lot of programs are like this.
bvolley17 hit the nail right on the head.....if you let your assistants have a huge role, you have to have good ones capable of the job, and that is not the case here. the assistant spends numerous practices tearing players down and not doing anything to build relationships with them or help them be better volleyball players. And the complaints are not from divas who just get their feelings hurt...its legitimate concerns. In fact, ask the girls struggling with mental health issues on the team, that no doubt has been impacted by COVID but also by the volleyball team itself. Do not get me wrong, the girls like Joe and often go to him when they are struggling with things on or off the court. But NONE of the girls like this assistant. They do not respect her or value her because she yells all the time about how they are doing things, without actually teaching them how to play volleyball...perhaps because she never truly played herself. Joe seems to be caught in between the personalities of the 2 assistants and the fine line between a personable approach yet a strict one. I guarantee a change in the assistant staff would result in less transfers and more developed players. I disagree...Shaffmaster is a player to really center your program around. But as alluded to....while recruiting may be getting better, no one wants to stay. This is not changing until the culture changes at UNC and that starts with the coaching staff. 2014....Elite 8 and ACC title, 2015 2nd in the Acc, 2016 ACC Title and Sweet 16, ranked as high as #7 in 2014 then #6 in 2016 in the nation...not ranked since then. It's too bad NC/Sagula didn't do their due diligence before hiring Clements. She left Wright State in a shambles with many of these same complaints from players. Some people are right for coaching - others are not. Agree.....she left Wright State because she was about to be fired....toxic culture there to! Would love for admin to ask the players that transferred out why the did so. there would be a common theme. She was close with Joe as she attended camps growing up and also worked camps at UNC...I think he wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. Instead the program is suffering. Time to let go of loyalty.

It must be hard on Mike Schall - as he is one of the best humans on the planet. A terrific guy and a fantastic coach. I hope they can work out what is going on, because Mike can really help this program.

I hope they can work out what is going on, because Mike can really help this program. Agree....the first 2 years Mike was the voice of reason and tried to be positive with the girls. The girls also like him, but this year he seemed to be more neutral in matters. Susan was in charge of one aspect of the game but she had a conflict with those players so Mike ended up taking her responsibilities and vice versa. Aka couldnt do her job.
Its time for her to go. For the sake of the program and athletes.

If Clements has this kind of past and is history repeating itself + is causing mental injuries to these student athletes,,, why on earth is there even debate on her getting her walking papers.

Because at UNC, the primary focus is on Basketball, Football, and maybe baseball. When all other sports do well, its a bonus. Volleyball is non revenue and low on the totem poll even though we are tryinf to increase awareness of womens sports.
Bubba Cunningham knows and has been told by current players and alumni how poor the direction of the program for a while and he has done nothing. No reason why UNC shouldn't be at the highest level athletically. And add in a coach creating a toxic program, just ask Bell, Harrison, Atherton, Cox, etc...
Its time for change, past time.

I don’t like Eve. Her baby daddy is a former player of hers ex boyfriend. You mean her husband, right?

Feel free to fact check the info I have recieved and still do. Its no secret Im alumni living in the area with strong club and UNC ties. Im passionate about UNC and this program. Dont like the info or opinion? Then peace out... Personally, also dont like Eve. But. Shes a good coach and developer. Currently our program lacks that. Will be interesting to see if there are any off season changes.

So it sounds like consensus amongst the staff is that 5'11" Mitrovich is not the answer in a 5-1 offense? Maybe graduating a whole year early wasn't such a good idea. Originally she was going to graduate and not play high school then come to UNC in the spring. She was highly ranked in the 2021 class before reclassifying. Seems odd... played at a level in club ball and now UNC is out looking for a setter with Archer and Mitrovich on the roster. Plenty of teams run a 5/1 with smaller setter than 5'11 (or 5'10). And Yes Clements Wright State stint was not good at all. When a place like Wright State fires you it's usually NOT because of wins and losses.
