When I saw that a very good player with full ride offers would walk on, my first thought was that there was an elite player that could qualify for a full academic scholarship(4 year Regents?). Does anyone fit that profile? My other thought was a very good basketball player that might walk on and then qualify for a basketball scholarship or someone that might foot the bill for 1 semester because a scholarship may become available after the season. I do not know the mechanics or likelihood of something like that.

Sort of surprising…the name circulating on social media is the best friend of someone with high level links to Creighton vb. . . I guess at the end of the day Nebraska is still the dream for most no matter who your best friend is. . .✔️🏐

I'm thinking that with NIL opportunities, NE fan enthusiasm, and in-state players always being fan favorites, a walk-on might be financially better off at NE than a scholarship at another school. I could also see post-graduate opportunites, too, related to in-state celebrity status. Just my opinion, without any first hand experience or knowledge of these things.

Sometimes it’s funny to me when so many top talents who play the same position pick the same school to go to. they do realize there is only 6 girls on the court and mostly 7-8 girls that play in a match. Some of these girls will not start until they are juniors or seniors. Yeah, but the best players all think they'll be one of those 7-8 Yes, I think Jen is right many athletes chose thinking they will start. But, IMO really great programs don't win five, seven or eight national championships without drawing talented athletes who put team first.

🔜 In addition to Murray, NE is also scoring a major walk on, who was offered a full ride at 3 top-10 programs. Nebraska will be able to field two top-5 teams of players from its 2023 roster. 🙌🏼 Put this into the form of a quatrain and I will know that Nostradamus has been reincarnated. While digging through some of Nostradamus's texts, I ran across this:
There comes from Nebraska, a lefty. A child of the Heaney's named Grace. Her skill as a player is hefty. A walk on role she'll embrace.

That is who I thought of as the highly-recruited walk-on. Makes sense and supposedly she has three scholarship offers from top ten schools. That is love, devotion from parents too, and hefty bank balances from Mom and Dad. Especially since a very good volleyball school has offered with a full-ride scholarship. Aren’t all scholarships full-rides yearly unless the said player decides to transfer?

As many know, the Harper sisters at times have preferred to wear number 27 in honor of their father who died when Harper was six. That is a tough and very unfortunate experience to deal with.

I no longer get too excited about recruiting classes and the hype that goes with it. Take a look at past classes and determine how many of them actually met the fans expectations. In the Huskers case, count how many actually finish at Nebraska. It’s so difficult to predict who will succeed in the Big Ten.

Submitted for your discussion: Will new federal COVID mandates turn into a second COVID nightmare season for women's volleyball? B1G slicing its season by half ... empty arenas with crowds replaced by cardboard cutouts (crowd noise will still be piped in) ... teams masking up and being COVID tested at least once a week ... your thoughts?

That would suck and have huge negative ramifications beyond volleyball. It appears that the vaccine is more effective in lessening the severity of the disease than ending it. Masks and shutdowns will not end the disease either, but only prolong its duration allowing more opportunity for additional variants to form. As the vaccine is universally available and effective in muting the most serious effects of the disease, IMO they should just let it run its course, especially before the January thru March time frame. Keep encouraging people to get the vaccine, and additional boosters if appropriate. Let this disease run its course. Vaccines plus natural immunity will end it as a serious threat. Masks and social isolation will not, just prolong it IMO.

One of the reasons I anxiously await the season. I just never feel right about speculating on starters or playing time, as that is an intra-team competition best left to the players, but that's just my thoughts. Edit: Sweet leaving obviously leaves opportunity at OPP or OH. Would not be surprised to see double sub. Also maybe more substitution depending upon match ups or if someone having a tough night.

Do you think the early season schedule was set up to allow for a lot of playing time for the freshmen? I think the two double headers and back-to-back matches against Tulsa, Colgate, Kansas State, UNO, Georgia and Arizona State set the huskers up perfectly to get playing time for all the players to make these decisions.
