This probably isn't the thread for this but Concordia doesn't have their own thread and I can't find an MPSF one for 2023: Anyone know what happened to CUI's starting libero from last year, Danny Smithers? He started 4 or 5 matches this season but has disappeared. He's not on Concordia's roster anymore. His IG has vanished. He left the program about a month ago. Jacob Riley is doing a great job in that role. Jacob earned the gold in u18 SAS squad. Jacob traveled from Texas to Hawaii every week of his senior year to practice with SAS. What a commitment. Anyway, he’s something special at libero and CUI is lucky to have him.

Wishing him nothing but amazing things.

Great libero. Great human.

Considering multiple people were asking, it is pretty fair to assume it is not some overwhelming public knowledge. None of them were jerks about it. Just you. You can interpret what you want. But the fact you did the same immature junk when Brinkley got brought up in the other thread, I am not surprised this is your response.

Well, back to the original point of this post. I hope he maintains his sobriety for the rest of his days, but just because someone is in recovery, does not give them the right to be a homophobic $cumbag and abuse his athletes.

What are we talking here, the guy likes to smoke some pot and have a drink when he gets home. Or is he going home and ripping lines or pounding booze in excess? Tough to make a vague accusation like that without following up.

It's not an assumption that he has addictions. He admits it himself. What is a little hard to fine online is that he was Banned from playing Men's Volleyball for testing positive for Banned substances later in his career. Fact, not fiction. What you wont find on the the internet was that he was hospitalized in Jamestown for over a month for an "attempted suicided" in 2020 I think. His men's team had to practice without there coach while he was in recovery for mixing pills and alcohol... The NAIA has done a great job on hiding this kind of behavior from their coaches I think. The Universities too for sure. This site is the only spot you will find this information. I dont think he is a bad guy at all, but he can't control those demons that haunt him. I wouldn't trust my Kid with him knowing what I know now.

Update. Riley Salmon is out as Concordia's head Vball coach. Asst Coach took over for the season 23/24. Riley just couldn't keep it together more than a year and half. New place new beginning, same old demons haunt the guy. He is so self destructive in his own life, why does he think he can mentor young men? This time the rumor is he got inebriated and thru a wine bottle at a player. I mean Riley was a hell of a player... Any college that hitches their ride to he destructive nature can't be successful for long. Here is the bigger issue. The NAIA hid the reason for his dismissal from Jamestown Volleyball program. Now Concordia is hiding the reason for his firing from their program. WTF! So that leaves him free to go our and create disaster with another program, and more kids! Sacrifice the kids for their glowing image? Riley pls retire from coaching and go into rehab full time. Do NOT try and coach anymore. Take it from a former parent of a kid who he recruited, and left someone else to pick up the pieces of teams shatter expectations. Riley if you read this, commit to getting help from others, stop trying to help others before you are fix yourself. let some one else a professional clear you before stepping on the court again and mentor our youth

I think that person meant that if it becomes public knowledge why he was let go from his previous positions, no program would want to hire him. Not necessarily that it would be illegal to hire him.

Employers are certainly allowed to divulge why someone is terminated, most choose not to in order to avoid defamation. But as far as I know there isn't a specific law preventing it. Worked in a corporate setting forever and have done plenty of hiring. Show me the law and I'll be glad to be wrong. That's why you choose who to list as a reference. It's the employers job to do a thorough background check.

I was expecting this type of response. They can use "defamation" and HIPPA laws (possibly) to sue whether it is valid or not. It will cost the institution lots of money in attorney fees alone. In fact, their insurance company may tell them to settle if they are sued. It is much easier to let some rumor mill posters on social media take care of the sharing of information as long as it isn't directly coming from them.
