I’m not 100% sure, but I think they go by UST, not STU. IIRC, the old Big 8 schools are the only ones that do the illogical “XU” thing when their actual name is the “University of X”. With some exceptions, of course... Of course, I’ve been wrong before... I saw the same thing...UST not STU

With some exceptions, of course... Of course, I’ve been wrong before... Yes, my bad. I should be particularly sensitive to this - I went to Northwestern University -- NU. Along comes new Big 10 member the University of Nebraska and they takeover "NU" - well at least it seems on sports forums and blogs where they're both part of the discussion like Volleytalk.
Why? They should be UN or NE. Yet, they usually get NU and Northwestern more often than not gets NWU if folks are using abbreviations. Lol. Honestly, it doesn't matter, but it is curious, and the Northwestern University community really does (correctly) use "NU" regularly and even people beyond the community.

I think the volleyball team will have an easier introduction to D1 than women's hockey (schedules are coming out for that). The Tommies are joining the WCHA so have to play MN, WI, and UMD 4-5 times each (12-15 times total, plus conference tourney). Those 3 schools have won 17 out of 20 NCAA women's hockey titles. That'd be like Tommie volleyball having to play Stanford, Penn State, and Nebraska 15 times in their inaugural season.

Like adding 4 matches against Minnesota or Wisconsin in volleyball (not champions, but always very good).

Stanford OTOH is a tall ask.

The Tommies have been busy scooping up as much local talent as possible. Saw the coaches a lot at Florida AAU's checking out girls from Select and Lights 1s & 2s courts.
Champlain Park setter Allie Kopp just committed. It will be interesting to see them at the Diet Coke Classic.

Things I did not know four minutes ago: There is a St Thomas University in Miami Gables as well as a University of St Thomas in Houston. Also, St Thomas in MN lists four assistant volleyball coaches.

Off the topic of volleyball, but on the topic of St Thomas moving big time, I read today that St Thomas Woman's Ice Hockey Head Coach Joel Johnson (formerly Associate Head Coach at U of MN) has been named Coach of the USA 2022 Olympic Women's Hockey Team.

If/ when St. Thomas upgrades facility I see them being a top summit league team pretty quick. I believe they will get a lot of Minnesota kids that are not quite good enough for the U of Minnesota. However I do believe that means they will get a couple of surprises. Minnesota has a deep pool of volleyball players that have been great summit league players. The gym they have now is actually a perfect Volleyball venue size, so even an upgrade I think VB would stay put. I am oddly excited to watch this transition.

St. Thomas is off to a good start and doing well in getting local talent. Of course moving forward they will need to draw girls from outside of Minnesota but that will come in time. I can see them bypassing UND fairly quickly but NDSU, South Dakota, and Denver may take a little time to reach. The Tommies' presence may also disrupt SDSU who have a fair number of Minnesota girls in their ranks as well. Also where the Gophers are concerned, there are girls who are good enough to play there but go elsewhere because they can get a FULL scholarship while the U offers them little to nothing in that regard.
