The thing is, Texas played well last night. How many teams have hit that efficiently and still come out the loser? They just ran into a Kentucky team that had all the pieces. Obviously, things can be worked on - blocking, floor defense, passing, etc etc but the backcourt has definitely improved and I’m excited to see them get even better. And I wish Jhenna was taller but alas she can’t help that one. I cant freaking wait for next season - it’s gonna be such a good one. As Logan said last night, “we’re winning next year.” PERIODT ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ

I just want them to continue improving their passing and back row play for next season. Elite hitters will neutralize the Texas block, so back row play HAS to always get better. They are at least at a good starting point.
I think the biggest question mark will be setting...does Elliott continue to let Gabriel run the team? She’s probably the most improved player and plays great defense, but the past 3 seasons have shown what teams with good setting and terminal left pin hitters can do when she is up front.
If Logan and Melanie play all 6 rotations, Skylar on the right with Nalani DSing for her in the back row, Bri/Asjia/Molly battling it out to start in the middle, and O’Brien in the black jersey, they could run a 5-2 system where Jhenna plays back row and Cabello plays in the front row.
We would still see great back row defense from Jhenna with three front-row option hitters if in-system and when Cabello is in the front, we would still have the slide attack open or she can attack on second contact. Plus, a backrow attack option would be open when either setter is on the floor. Nalani would also be the secondary setter option when Cabello is up front. That might be one of the line-ups to develop this summer and run in the fall.

Do we think Skylar goes back to the right? I know that’s what she was recruited as but she really came into her own on the left this Spring. I feel like she probably will go back to Opp bc Melanie is too good to be on the bench, and I think she’ll only get better over the next few months. Jerritt has a lot to work with so I’ll be interested to see what he does.

The fact we have everyone coming back next year is incredible. We still don’t know all that Parra, Malual, and Williams can do. I think the line up stays similar to what it was this fall/tournament and coach Elliott uses his depth a bit more for certain match ups and to develop them for the ‘22 season. I could be wrong, I just think this lineup was so complete and simply ran into a team that was a smidge better- there won’t be many in that category next year. Jhenna stays at setter and Cabello continues to develop in the wings. I’m praying O’Brien stays and plays. Logan will continue to grow as a leader. She just has that IT factor for me. I know she can make boatloads after she graduates, but I’m wondering if she’ll stay a fifth year seeing as that would be when she should graduate. That would be incredible, but I’m assuming unlikely.

She’s so athletic and terminal. I get Bailey Webster vibes when I watch her on the left pin (and Khat Bell vibes in general). From a sheer number of attacks purposes, I’d rather see her there.

They beat PSU early in the year with Neal and Pilar on the right playing 6 rotations with setters coming in for the middles back row and Palmer libero-ing for Haley and Bailey on the left. But ended up with everything the same as the previous year except Chi for Shadare and Brooks as her DS.

I see a lot of transfer talk but this team really doesn’t need anyone.
A taller transfer setter with <4 months of connection work with the hitters vs Gabriel multi year rapport is a stupid thing to hope for imo.
I think the success of this team in the Fall might come down to O’Brien coming back or not. Yes, Iosia is good but is she also good under pressure of being the one that needs to be counted on in the different colored jersey?
Would be nice to see a UT team with multiple quality 6 rotation pins who aren’t passing liabilities and there’s a great chance of that being the look in the Fall if Morgan were to not come back.

Honestly, with having Fields, Eggleston, Phillips, and Parra (along with Malual), are we sure a 6-2 is out of the question? It would take away the liability of Gabriel in the front row and allow our four best pins to all be hitting. Plus with Parra and Eggleston, our passing would be strong.
