Jeopardy showing repeat episodes with Alex still hosting. Ken Jennings is almost at $2 million. Strange (on my tv) the recording screen is smaller than my screen size? Does this say they recorded in analog? the episode is from 2004, before HDTV was super prevalent, and most (if not all) television shows were broadcast at a 4:3 aspect ratio instead of the 16:9 that is more common today. That's why it looks different (and why for the rebroadcast, they added extra border fill along the sides). It may have been recorded in analog instead of digital as well, but that isn't what determines the aspect ratio difference that you notice. This week's shows is the same collection that they assembled and showed in December (I think, though maybe it was January), with the shows all featuring a category where Alex had traveled to some other location to film a category of clues.

Personally not a fan of Bialik but I'm a bit taken aback by those whose opinions are so strong that they will quit watching. Really? That's just taking things a bit too serious IMO.
I would describe my interest as more casual than hardcore....I'll probably watch Richards for a couple weeks and then after that return to watching off and on.

I think it is quite lame. my guess is most of these people either never really watched the show on a regular basis anyway (so no big loss), or they will continue to watch anyway and the boycott threat was just meaningless bluster. Personally, I didn't have a problem with Richards' guest hosting stint, so I doubt I'll have a problem with him on a long term basis. I actually enjoyed Bialik's guest hosting stint quite a bit (though I was bummed they didn't do a "Fun with Flags" category at some point. I'm just wondering what they are talking about with the "primetime specials" and/or spinoff that they said she would be doing, considering I don't remember any such specials in the recent past beyond the Greatest of All Time tournament with Ken, James, and Brad. I actually find my interest in Jeopardy waning lately because the current champion had a long string of lock games where he had obviously ran away with it 5 minutes into Double Jeopardy, and I find those types of games boring. But that has nothing to do with the hosting

That didn't take long. Mike Richards is already out.
More guest hosts until they can figure it out.

I would describe my interest as more casual than hardcore....I'll probably watch Richards for a couple weeks and then after that return to watching off and on. I mean, it's entertainment. If people don't find the host entertaining, then they're less likely to watch. For example, I used to watch The Daily Show with Jon Stewart almost every night, but I haven't watched a full episode since he left the show. As for Jeopardy, I definitely think Alex was a big part of the show's success, though it also has a good format for a gameshow. I would probably be fine with a number of hosts, but there are definitely some that would turn me off from the show, perhaps permanently. Ken Jennings is one of the people on that list. He's a great player, obviously, but I can't stand his TV persona. Not that Joe Buck was a serious candidate for the job, but he's on that list too. It's bad enough that he ruins the World Series every year.

I wonder if they'll give Laura Coates a guest hosting stint (if she wants it), as she was a name that Trebek himself floated as possible successor in an interview a few years ago. (personally, I don't know anything about Coates beyond what was stated in the article about the interview)

I didn't mind Aaron Rodgers, he was clear with his speech and gave an authentic approach to it. Bailik was very good, very smooth. Just make her permanent host and put Rodgers in the new college shows.

Prod. a month from now. perhaps, perhaps not. the general public generally doesn't care about the behind-the-scenes folk. they never had issue with him as the EP prior to this. Certain folk got all offended when MR was named as permanent host instead of whoever their favorite "guest host" was, so they dug up dirt on him, and cancel culture got ahold of it and made it viral. The general public also has a short attention span, and now that MR has stepped down as host, they'll likely forget about it (regardless of whether he continues on as EP) and move on to whatever else gets their knickers in a knot.

I read somewhere that it's back to Ken Jennings?

I read somewhere that it's back to Ken Jennings? Supposedly, he's the favorite, though the first guest host will be Bialik. I hope it's not Jennings, though I suppose if it is, then I never have to watch again. At this point, I'm not sure why Sony doesn't license the 37 Trebek seasons to NetFlix or someone. I would be willing to pay to watch old episodes.

I am starting to think that despite what Trebek said about jeopardy being about the players, a lot of it really is/was about him. A good analogy may be to the price is Right.
Bob barker was basically that show. I've watched it maybe once or twice since he retired. Drew Carey just doesn't do it for me. So I think even if they don't really have strong or polarizing opinions on who should be the permanent host, a lot of people will not tune in anymore.

I'll never understand those people who claim to be fans of the show, but then exclaim that they'll never watch if so-and-so is the host. I mean, I can understand being skeptical: I didn't think I could stomach Joe Buck hosting, but I gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised by his week.

I mentioned this earlier, but this was also the experience I had with The Daily Show after Jon Stewart left.
