this is why Texas fans were confused and questioning why everyone was saying if Texas doesn't win this year it'll be embarrassing, etc. Nebraska and Wisconsin are LOADED as well. even Minnesota has a great shot as well if Wurcherer comes in solid and Landfair looks healthy. there's more than a few dark horses as well. * No one* has ever won a VB championship in January of the prior academic year. To expand on your point, NEB was a "shoo-in" in 2016, PSU in '17, TX in '20*, etc. To build on your point, a couple of the championship coaches can name one of their teams that should have won and didn't and a team that surprised them by winning a championship.

Congrats to Nebraska and their fans, this is a huge get for them. However Im starting to get tired of this, seems like the transfer portal is only making the rich get richer. If Nebraska and Texas are head and shoulders above everyone next year the transfer portal needs to be seriously updated because the fanbase that is currently growing around college volleyball will not continue to do so if the same two teams are always in the finals. In 2022 I'll be cheering for every team against TX and Neb, hope to see another first time winner. You just made the best argument AGAINST your thesis of killing the fanbase. Each year, the highest ratings for college vball on TV are Nebraska games. You (and others) will be watching because you want to see Nebraska lose and I (and old and new Nebraska fans) will watch to see them win. Same with Texas games. Not caring about who is playing and who wins is what kills a sport's fanbase. When was the last time that you watched an Indycar race and can you name 4 current drivers?

It's no different than recruiting high school--the big programs get their first choice of athletes, regardless. It's just that now it's done in the open. I'd argue that something like NIL is making a bigger difference than some of these schools. Nebraska has COVID seniors who likely gave up their scholarship for their extra year. (Knowing they have NIL money coming in and they'll likely be ok financially) I haven't done the scholarship math for each school, but there are others in seemingly similar situations.

Can we all sit back for a few moments of silent reflection and remember a few years ago when Lexi Sun transferred to Nebraska?
And several people said the same thing they're saying now?

Did Lexi Sun prove herself one of the best players nationwide at her position while playing in the best conference in the country for 4 years prior to transferring to NE? Not the best comparison.

Lexi Sun transferred to NE as a sophomore with a back injury that limited her play her 1st year and possibly longer? Kaitlyn Hord is a graduate transfer. Not the same thing.

If orr gets acclimated well, this is Nebraska’s championship to lose C’mon man, you have to know how hard it is to win championships and how many things have to fall in line for a team to have a great chance to win. “There’s to lose is comical” On December 1 how good of a chance would you have had Nebraska to win a NC? I would have said little to none, and they were a few plays from winning it all. You have to be really good, healthy, catch some breaks, and play lights out. There’s to lose is just silly

Okay I just wanna talk about how dynamic Sun was pre injury. I feel robbed of seeing what she could be like at full potential and without that injury… and I don’t even like Texas or Nebraska lol.
Same goes with Hodson.

Lexi Sun didn’t ask to be rated the number one recruit in senior aces by prep volleyball for her senior class. Or essentially division one coaches. Many factors extend beyond high school to determine if a ranking at 17 years of age holds up in the passage of time. In this case the ranking was wrong by the coaches. Not the first time in this unique ranking of high school women indoor volleyball players.

Everyone for 2022? Did you think Texas was the huge prohibitive favorite against Nebraska last month in Austin? Texas had gaudy offensive statistics, well above Nebraska. But Texas didn’t have the preparation for the NCAA tournament from the Big 12 like Nebraska had within the Big Ten. Nebraska outhit Texas with a percentage that was high for them and much lower for Texas. Nebraska won the first touches to which can be from match to match. Against Wisconsin Nebraska was more a standoff on first touches but the Wisconsin defense(the Block) won the match against Nebraska. 24 blocks suggest a great tall and athletic wall and a offense easier to read the third time in a given season.

For this upcoming season. Multiple people were saying how Texas should win it all and that it would be embarrassing if they didn't or that Elliot's job should be looked at, etc. Your point about Texas being favorited against Nebraska and losing is kind of exactly my point. You never know when you're going to run into a hot team in the tournament, and Nebraska was certainly hot, proven by their natty run. And while I wish Texas did have a tougher conference slate, that game came down more to the fact Texas couldn't pass (passing a 1.46 as a team in an Elite 8 game makes my body cringe).

There’s to lose is just silly I’m talking about in a world where everyone plays to their best ability. I’m talking about “on paper”, Nebraska has the strongest back row in the country and they return every single member of that back row, the most important one being a freshman who’s only gonna get better. They proved in the tournament this year they have the pins to do it (again 2 only in their first year of college vb). All the pins return as well. To replace their star middle blocker stivrins, they bring in a better one. The only variable to this teams success at this point to me is Orr. They proved they have all the pieces last year and with all of them having a year together they’re just gonna be even better.

I love Nebraska. Not seeing them as Best On Paper. Great backrow. Two grad middles who should do fine. But, Hitting team and setter with great potential. I think there's a difference saying they are best on paper now vs on paper they have what it takes to hopefully be on top tourney time.
