It is disappointing that USAV is going to punish someone for doing what they felt they had to do in order to operate an event under COVID guidelines. To my knowledge Crossroads has never banned infants from their events in the past and I can only assume would not do so in the future. Crossroads typically goes out of their way to make it a family friendly event (inflatable bounce houses, puppies, and discounts to local activities). For those that have gone out of their way to "CANCEL" Crossroads, I fear you may regret the short-sighted reaction. There is a reason this event is typically a favorite among athletes, families, and college coaches. I spoke to a number of tournament directors during the controversy their overwhelming response was: this is such an easy fix, it is not that hard. Also remember that Crossroads had three days to implement an easy fix without violating any protocol and chose not to do so. There is also a question of whose rule it was to keep spectators under 16 from the Colorado Convention Center. They couldn't answer that qustion at all. When you resort to: my tournament my rules! You have lost the moral high ground.

Not surprised at all that Kay, USAV and any other parties involved could not come to an agreement or compromise. There is plenty of water under the bridge and this is likely better for USAV's struggling notoriety in the jr volleyball world moving forward.

USAV initial statement seemed panicked and rushed, this couldn't have been an easier choice once they likely knew they wouldn't face any legal ramifications.

I'd bet that after a few hours of non-response, people blew up the USAV customer service phones and inboxes. They had to say something to start the legal paper trail. I'm sure after a review of the NQ Terms and Conditions agreement, it was pretty easy to cut ties with no fear of legal ramifications from XC.

One of the reasons SLC lost triple crown is because their airport isn’t particularly big and airfare to get to the event was out of control. Can’t see them drawing a big field. Is that any worse than Reno or Spokane? I'd say it is actually a bit better airport than those 2. Kansas City airport is terrible!

This is hard all the way around.
I can look at it from one side and guess that they may have made a decision pre-event that there would be no exceptions to COVID protocols. No flexibility allowed. But they probably just never considered breastfeeding infants. So then what?
IMO, a well-functioning leadership would have called an emergency discussion of the relevant parties, gathered all the input, discussed all the positions, and decided to either modify the policy or not modify it. Instead, by all appearances the process that was followed was instead autocratic and inflexible.
This has consequences. For instance, if they had involved USAV in the decision, then USAV would not be able to punish them for it, even if the same decision was ultimately made.

How many millions of dollars did the Denver economy just lose over something that could have been resolved so easily? So what’s the process of selecting a new city to host a qualifier? Is it a bidding process? I could see SLC trying since they lost Triple Crown. One of the reasons SLC lost triple crown is because their airport isn’t particularly big and airfare to get to the event was out of control. Can’t see them drawing a big field. SLC has a brand new airport, and even the old one was bigger than Kansas City's

From the SLC airport website: So the new terminals are supposed to be complete in 2024. As it says, they already completed the first phase, and it is open. Once they opened the two new terminals, they tore down the old terminals. They are now working on the second phase, which will be complete in 2024. I fly out of there a couple times a month.

New SLC airport is beautiful. But be prepared to walk. And walk. And walk. Airfare is still much more expensive than KC, and more centrally located. Triple Crown is trying to be a tournament for everyone.. And I think KC is rebuilding their terminals.
