I'm actually really hoping that she stays with Romania. The more good athletes like Haak and Caratasu that stay with their natural born federations, the better the field of teams will be in the long run. The top teams don't need anymore firepower. I do get the drive for wanting to be a big name on the international stage though. It must be a tough decision. Situations like Vargas' who come from countries with poor standards of living are the exception. She will stay with Romania... a NT can't have more than one naturalized player (Vargas in this case)
I think Carutasu is a bit of a different case (as in not switching for just success). From what I've seen, she's lived in Turkey for little awhile (she's only 17 or 18).
Vargas switched because of being alienated by Cuba, not really because of their standard of living.
As always, thank you for knowing your stuff. Also, I appreciate the info. ๐

She isn't quite the star that Caratasu is but she is also quite young and her development in Italy bodes well for the future of Romanian Volleyball. I have a good friend who is from Romania and he and I plan to visit there next year once this pandemic is waning. I hear it's beautiful. Can't wait!

Had a good friend who visited Romania, Latvia, and Estonia in 2019. Said those countries were absolutely fantastic. I'd like to go there myself when things open up again. Enjoy!!

I didn't watch the whole match, just bits and pieces. Looks like there was plenty of rotation for both sides. (not surprisingly)

Good News: Haak is traveling with Sweden to their match.
Bad News: Georgia has covid so they've forfeited their first match vs Sweden (unsure about the rest)

A couple more NCAA connections - Carmen Unzue for Spain played her final two seasons at ASU, and Avital Jaloba on Israelโs roster also played at ASU and currently plays for New Mexico.

i could watch it! good performance by captain Begic (MVP of the match, 21 pts, 6 aces). Hope to see consistency on the next matches (3 in a row, 2 weekends) and so they can go to the main event, if her teammates help her!
