Would'nt a Rose/Cook mentorship kinda be at the same thing at this stage? I like the way you are thinking with your suggestions as well. Agree Reyes maybe a little green as a HC but so was JFO and that seemed to work out pretty well for OSU. By mentorship, I was thinking something like the way John Cook was hired. John left the head coaching job with Wisconsin to work as an assistant under Terry Pettit for one year before getting the head coaching job at Nebraska. The Penn State position will likely be so sought after that something like that might be available. John Cook did his mentorship under Pettit while he was assistant late ‘80’s early 90’s: he was associate head coach during TP’s final season and retirement year. I wouldnt really call that year a mentorship year?!

I wouldnt really call that year a mentorship year?! A year to prepare, to work with Pettit getting to know the current administration and university policies that might have changed. To see how new press members operate. A year to get Pettit's insights on the conference players and coaches, all with an eye to become head coach. I would call it an almost perfect mentorship.

This would be so disappointing lol I respectfully disagree The last Nebraska assistant Penn State hired worked out pretty well. But seriously, I'm not sure Jaylen Reyes is ready. Penn State might be better served with someone mentored by Russ Rose or possibly an up and coming head coach like Jen Oldenberg or Dani Busboom Kelly. Three thumbs up!

We know Cook had been an assistant at Nebraska earlier. But Pettit's idea to bring Cook in for a transition year was a genius way to help a new coach do well. Also, hiring an experienced head coach who already had his own program ready to pop into the final four was a pretty good decision too. Penn State is important to volleyball. It's important to get the hire right. History has too many stories of coaches failing when they take over for a legend.

Is Steve Aird a candidate for the Penn State job in the near future? Definitely not.

With 24 on the team, is it possible there could be a scrimmage of four teams on two courts? Or is that less valuable than all watching the 6 on 6?

Chances they go to a 6-2 with so many pins on the roster?
