Do we have a list of who all is in the gym training for the USA? uh...*unofficial* L: Shoji and Watten S: Christenson, Shoji, Tuaniga MB: Holt, Smith (will likely join soon if not already post-CEV), Averill OH: Sander (T and B), DeFalco, Jaeschke, Russell's there on crutches OPP: Anderson, Patch, Hanes, Ensing I'd imagine Muagatutia and MB's like Jendryk and McDonnell are maybe there? But I haven't seen them on any video. Also, maybe D'Agostino could be there with the L's but I don't know for sure. There might be some people I'm missing but idk. This is just what I've seen from social media/Erik's videos. I've definitely seen Jendryk and Stahl. I concur with who all you have listed. I was merely wondering if there were any surprise additions besides Hanes. I cannot believe Watten is still around. He is never going to beat out Shoji. I guess every team needs a cheerleader on the bench? 🤷🏻♂️ Who replaces Shoji when/if he retires after Tokyo?

Really wish we would've invested more in Brinkley when he was there. Don't know what happened to Tui, but thought he was a pretty good option.

Wonder if Team USA will look at getting Hatch another look.

He’s still only 31/32, and people are playing much longer these days. But it’ll be really hard to find someone to match Erik, he’s a libero with a genuine argument for being the best in the world.

He definitely has the ability to go as long as Sérgio from Brazil did, but I'd hope USA would utilize other guys to give Erik a rest in the minor tournaments where we wouldn't need him as much and to plan for when he does retire.

Hanging around without a viable overseas contract is really hard for players and just impossible for those who lack the backing and funds to wait around and fund themselves every summer. Old school/Guard USA coaches/admin just never understood this in the 80s thru 2000s and although things have gotten much better, the pandemic cleaned house I'm afraid.

I'm still curious as to why Ma'a is not in the gym right now? Was he told he is behind Josh or did he choose not not come this summer and do stuff with out of system? It doesn't make sense to me.
Is Aaron still on crutches?

Is Aaron still on crutches? I mean...Micah was probably told he was third behind Kawika or fourth behind Josh and had a slimmer chance of making Tokyo, and the OOS team really wanted to use this summer to grow their brand. I’d assume it’s more about doing Out of System stuff though. Hopefully he’ll be back next summer. I’d bet Aaron is still on crutches post-hip surgery. It would be miraculous if he gets healthy enough for Tokyo, I wouldn’t bet on it.

Out of curiousity, has an official mens roster for the vnl been released, I understand it has already been done for the women, thus curious if anyone has a link.

If the women's roster is any indication, they can carry something like 18ish athletes. Thus it's likely the same for the men. Further, if the roster is 18, it wouldn't also surprise me if they are allowed to bring another 3 or 4 alts just in case injuries and/or covid happens.

I haven't seen a link and the FIVB VNL site doesn't have a roster for the men either. They don't have a roster for any of the men's teams actually.

From the womens forum, some of the bubble restrictions leaked:
From Serbia They have to arrive by the 22nd and get a PCR test. They have to isolate for a minimum for 16 hours (cannot leave rooms) Hotel and the playing halls are the only buildings they are allowed to be in. They will be separated from the kitchen/food preparers. There will be two warm up courts and six for practicing. Bench players/coaches will be in masks. Liberos/middles will be masked when not playing. No anthems, no greetings, no change of sides. No line judges, no ball collectors, no one to wipe the floors. (evidently two staff? non players will be assigned the ball/floor duties) No locker rooms for practice, they'll shower in their hotels. Only one scout may attend other matches. They can rent a pool or beach, but it has to be done in advance. Outside food must be approved and properly sanitized. Masks are going to be required (might be flexible) and changed every 4 hours. Covid tests every 4 days. The bubble is strictly for players/staff. They are not for the kitchen staff, cleaners, etc.
From Poland Teams get 3 hours in the gym/practice courts every day. They cannot train at other facilities. They have specific times for when they are allowed to go outside (for a walk) Players of the same position cannot stay in the same room together (2 OHs cannot be roommates) (they want to try to ensure all matches are played and not cancelled due to losing a position group)
Imo, they actually have a good amount of freedom in that they can rent the pool/beach, go for walks, etc. Doesn't seem like there's anything too drastic in there to my eye.

I mean, I get that people are excited about Worsley and Gasman's future, but in an Olympic year, just months before the Games, I'd look to bringing in guys that could potentially help us if something happens before July for this tournament. Guys who at least have some international ball playing under their belts. There's plenty of time after the Olympics to get these recent college grads experienced. The women's roster last year had 3 players still playing NCAA ball because we could afford to build for the future. None this year. Every one on that 18-player roster has played overseas now, a good mix of vets and fresh blood. I think the men's team needs that same model, especially with quite a few injuries so close to the Games. I don't think any alternates are allowed with the bubble, hence why the rules are so strict when it comes to the players.

I think Gasman and Worsley might get onto the roster for the NORCECA Championships in August. They may already be in Europe with club teams, but I see this as a great opportunity for them to get acclimated. I know that in 2016 Speraw made his decision early in the international season and stuck with his 12 guys.
What will be tough for Gasman this summer is that he chose to stay at UH when guys like McDonnell, Sthal, and especially Averill saw their stock rise overseas.

I remember thinking Brinkley was an absolute stud at UCI. I didn;t understand why he didn't play his first year out of college. I was hangin out with Jaylen Reyes the next summer who said that he was not completely healthy but was going to try to pick up a contract the next year. Sadly he only lasted a year at Luneburg. He then jumped head-first into real estate.
