Really wish we would've invested more in Brinkley when he was there. Don't know what happened to Tui, but thought he was a pretty good option. Hanging around without a viable overseas contract is really hard for players and just impossible for those who lack the backing and funds to wait around and fund themselves every summer. Old school/Guard USA coaches/admin just never understood this in the 80s thru 2000s and although things have gotten much better, the pandemic cleaned house I'm afraid. Last I heard Tui started a successful business in Hawaii-- Brinkley saw a LOT of green and is in real estate in a very affluent part of South Orange County. Hard to say "no" to the cash when it comes in BIG amounts.

Italy sending a youth team. Woof.
All the other big players are there. I'm not as familiar with the stars of the men's game but Poland's roster looks scary. Russia's is missing a few names but still looks solid. Germany, Australia and Bulgaria sending a mixed bag. Slovenia and the Netherlands look all present and accounted for. I'm not too familiar with Japan but their young stars are present.
The men's tournament is shaping up to be quite the spectacle. I'm going to try to encourage more folks on the women's side to tune in.
Everyone should get Volleyball TV ASAP. Their early bird sign up ends today! It's available in the USA for the first time with out need of a VPN.

I think we might see Patch and Hanes battling it out for the Opposite slot. I think that since Russell is out, Anderson will be playing a lot on the left side. I'm very curious to see how the other four OH's (Jaeshcke, DeFalco, Muagututia and B. Sander) look. The battle in the middle is going to be fun to watch too. Who gets that third spot and does Smith hold onto his starting spot? I know he and his team won CL this year which is badass.

He was solid in reception and a great OH2 for USA. I'm interested to see if Russell will be healthy for Tokyo. If not, I would be surprised to see players like Muagututia, DeFalco, or Jaeschke get cut to keep an oppo like Hanes or Ensing.

Jake Hanes ? Really.. after he got kicked off the OSU team. He is a hothead. I witnessed him scream and threaten fans at a OSU match after he was taken out. Good luck on on him..

It is one thing to act like that when you are the best player in the gym.....but, he won't be close to the best player in the USA gym. I'm sure behavior like that will earn him a quick ticket home....

That said, bad attitudes, regardless of reason, typically continually manifest themselves no matter what. If things don't go his way, makes an error, perceives someone else made an error, etc... I'm willing to give many a shot because we do need a better OPP. Patch has come a long way, it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

He struggled to get any kills. The only thing that was effective was tips and pushes, but once teams understood that, he became completely ineffective. He was terrible on defense. He can't play deep. Notice when he did play, Speraw moved Erik Shoji to deep. Basically what that says is that he has no mobility. He was okay on left back because he didn't have to move much to take angle. He's shown his ceiling and it's inadequate. I'd much rather see someone like a Brendan Sander get a shot because his game has improved immensely this season in Poland.

I've been rewatching several of the matches from 2019 and if Jaeshke and Sander are healthy, I would much rather have them go then Garrett. He just wasn't good. Also, DeFalco and B. Sander need to go for the experience since they will be leading this team in the coming years. Garrett's time was during Rio and Priddy took his spot back then.

For me it is more about the fact he was the 25th ranked opposite out of 29 in the French league. And the only ones below him only played in 1 or 5 matches throughout the season.
