I need to know if the game is home/away to start making travel plans. Per the article, the game will be in Tampa... so a neutral game, but obviously more in Florida's regional advantage Yeah, plan on a wreck on 75 if coming from Gainesville, due to Florida Man or some idiot tourist driving and Murphy's Law, but not too far! 441 from Gainesville to where you cut over to the first Ocala exit is a solid 75 avoidance strategy!

What happened?! I’m dying to know how the newcomers looked Anisa Havilli posted that Miami won but that’s okay. Would rather know about how individual players did. I’m wondering too, it’s a long way to the regular season and a lot of time for Stucky to get good connections with her hitters

Hmm yeah where to start. Overall impressions: Stucky be pushing this offense USA-fast and our hitters are not ready lol. There wasn’t a single slide that worked cause they were too fast and Miami had a decent number of blocks because the hitters were rushing in too early or were way late. But when the connection was there it was pretty! Martin is a huge presence on the block, especially at right side. She split time between RS and OH and I think looked better at RS. Dixon also split time, sometimes playing 6-rotations. She honestly didn’t get that many opportunities it felt like. I don’t remember her doing anything particularly impressive. Ellie looks good! Passed pretty well and had some really nice defensive plays. Canaan is right behind her. Unfortunately, the passing woes continued at times. The third set in particular, I don’t think we were in-system off the pass even once. Stucky was running all over the place. I think Adams got aced like 4 times Really hope our passing unit puts in some work this summer. I don’t think Miami was serving particularly tough, just picking on certain people relentlessly. Hoyle also played throughout the day and seemed to do fine. Trinity Thomas played middle every other set but didn’t seem to get very involved. Hutson wasn’t dressed for the match. Sofia came in and passed three perfect balls and then had an overpass or two, but literally only saw the back court maybe twice. Essix came alive late, but it wasn’t enough in the fifth set. Kelley didn’t get very involved either. The timing between her and Stucky was not good. Okammor played throughout the day and looked really good in front of Stucky, but again… our slide is just so bad. Way too fast for our hitters. In my opinion, those sets need a bit more height and a bit less push and our athleticism will beat the block. Stucky was pretty aggressive, especially when stuck in the rotation where Okammor and Martin were the two options. Our serve receive was horrendous and she had to dump multiple times to get out of that. She blasted a third-contact ball once which made me regret that we can’t have more than one of her. Oh lastly, ACF. She played the whole day, only front row. Had some bangers and fought hard, I just see her height as still being something that’s holding her back. The connection with Stucky wasn’t great. Am I forgetting anyone? Anything else people want to know? My biggest takeaway was that Martin will be very good!

Sad there was no Hutson and limited Sofia. Too bad about ACF. Relegated to front row only is telling. I thought she might have more worth as back row player with some offensive capabilities.

But they have a good amount of time to practice it and get it to perfection. Pretty sure Bre Kelley never did a slide in high school + club... This sounds a lot like last year, when Florida had FSU... I have no doubt that Florida will be in good shape once the season starts But for GODS SAKE, please Mary Wise.... FOCUS ON PASSING

It’s early, and a lot of new faces are settling in. But yes: passing, passing, passing. I predict Martin will be a beast on the RS. And last year Kelley ran the slide much more often than previous MBs, but they definitely need that in the mix more consistently. FL used to be a very slide heavy program and the last 10 years have seen it almost evaporate entirely.

In the last decade, I can only recall Kramer having a great slide toward the end of her career. Antwi too. Kelley and Essix both looked good doing it at times last year.
Good on Stucky for pushing the team. Now is the time. Hopefully it pays dividends.
I believe we have a stud freshman DS coming in that should help shore up passing. Last spring was a hot mess too before we had Canaan or Hoyle as options.
I see Victoria as the 6 rotation OH then Dixon and Kennedy taking the other 2 pin spots. Dixon may need to pass in some rotations.

A lot of talk about focusing on passing. I agree, the passing must improve, but realize that there are players who will never be good passers. There's an innate skill involved. Some have it, some do not. Find good passers and focus on making them great.
