St. Mary's reminds me that I learned during their match with BYU that the reason Boo Laird is called "Boo" is because she resembled Boo from Monsters Inc. when she was young. I guess that's a pretty good reason to have a nickname, considering that Monsters Inc. is my choice for best Pixar film. Great story, but Up is the best Pixar film. |

LMU has completed a sweep of Gonzaga, but the Zags put up a bit of a fight. 25-13, 26-24, 25-21 Pacific is up 2-1 on San Francisco, gaining steam. After dropping the first set, Pacific won 3-1 over San Francisco, outscoring the Dons 75-47 the rest of the way. SMH again for San Francisco. |

BYU jumped out to a 10-2 lead on the way to a 25-17 first set win over Santa Clara. Without that lead, it was neck and neck the rest of the way, so we'll see how set 2 goes.
In Spokane, the Zags had an easy 1st set win over Saint Mary's, 25-15. I'm a bit surprised at that score. I expected this match to be closer.
In Portland, Pacific takes set 1 over Portland, 25-19.

Well, that was fast. Saint Mary's blasts back with a 25-12 win of their own in set 2 to tie it up at 1-1 against Gonzaga.
SMC hitting .267 to Gonzaga's .140. Both teams have 3 blocks. Gonzaga has 7 aces to SMU's 2. SMU has 22 digs to the Zag's 18.
For Gonzaga, Kennedy Croft has 7 kills hitting .278, Juliette Russell and McKenna Marshall 3 each.
For SMU, Hawley Harrer has 5 kills hitting .833, with 3 each for Kristen Erland & Elena Baka.

BYU took set 2 over Santa Clara by the same score as set 1, 25-17. This time, Santa Clara kept pace until both teams reached 15, then BYU pulled away.
Ballard-Nixon leading the way for BYU, hitting .529, with 9 kills on 17 swings, no errors. Kenzie Koerber has 8 kills, 2 errors, on 18 swings, hitting .333. Middles just 4 kills between them--Gneiting 3/1/4 (.500) & Eschenberg 1/0/6 (.167). In her first match back after the ankle sprain, Erin Livingston is hitting .231 (4/1/13).
Tulino doesn't have a great hitting percentage, but she's had some nice kills for Santa Clara hitting .148 (10/6/27). The same for Schaffer with 8 kills, 3 errors, on 29 swings (.172). Santa Clara has 5 aces to BYU's 2.

In Portland, Pacific takes a slightly tighter set 2, 25-21 to lead the match, 2-0.
Kennedy Kaminsky has 6 kills, 1 error, on 11 swings (.455) for Pacific, and Sedona Sherman has 5, no errors, on 8 swings (.625).
For Portland, Jayde Harris leads the way (.217) 9 kills on 23 attempts, but has 4 errors. Then comes Emma Swett (.556, 5/0/9) and Chelsey Harmon (.375, 5/2/8).

Gonzaga is holding a 2-point lead over Saint Mary's in the 3rd, 23-21. They've led since a 9-9 tie, but Saint Mary's kept it within 3 points until Gonzaga edged away to a 5-point lead at 21-16. Now, they've got it back to 2 points.

BYU is running away with the 3rd set in Santa Clara, 21-7, after scoring 9 straight points.
Pacific holds a comfortable lead over Portland in the 3rd, 15-7.
San Diego has a commanding 22-14 lead over San Franicsco in set 1.
USF scores 3 straight to close to 22-17.

Pacific still with a big lead over Portland, 19-10, in the 3rd set of their match.Ouch! Portland does not score another point on their way to losing the 3rd set, 25-10. Pacific wins 3-0.
Saint Mary's and Gonzaga are just starting set 4. Tied at 3. Gonzaga has seemingly taken control of set 4, with a 6-point margin now over Saint Mary's, 15-9.
San Francisco making a push at the end of set 1. San Diego still up, but it's only a 3-point lead now, 22-19.San Diego wins set 1, 25-20 in San Francisco. I'm not watching this match, so I have no idea if it was good volleyball from USF, bad volleyball from USD, or mixture of both at the end of that set.

After falling behind Gonzaga by 6 points, Saint Mary's is back within 1 at 15-16 in the 4th set.
Now Saint Mary's has taken a 2-point lead, 18-16. Kennedy Croft is up to 14 kills for the Zags, followed by Russell with 11 and Marshall with 9. Hawley Harrer and Elena Baka both have 8 for Saint Mary's with while Trinity Durfee has 7 and Chandler Cowell 6.
San Diego & San Francisco are tied at 10 in the 2nd. Actually, USF has taken the lead, 11-10.

Saint Mary's close to making it a 5-setter, now up 23-20 in Spokane. Gonzaga fights off 3 set points to tie it at 24. SMU finally wins a point to get a 4th set point, 25-24.
San Diego & San Francisco tied at 13 in set 2. USD forces a USF TO after taking a 2-point lead, 17-15. Then a service error and a block on Pries ties it up again at 17.

Gonzaga fights off another set point, than has one of their own at 26-25, but can't get it. But they have another chance to end it up 27-26.
