Can someone refresh my memory? Didn't Lavrisha pretty much come back out of retirement to take over the USF team in 2017? It seems like USF has always known this was a temporary HC position, and that they may have been considering for some time who to replace him with. I thought it was unusual that the AD commented on having been watching Silva run practices in the fall, and it seemed like that he would have been watching with the intention of considering which of these coaches they might promote when Lavrisha left... just my own theory. The athletic director at USF, Joan McDermott, is a she I believe. It does seem like she had it in the back of her head to replace Lavrisha if another coach caught her eye. Even with the progress that USF has had, it was still a losing season. So it makes sense that McDermott would let him go and make it seem like his decision to retire. They should have advised Lavrisha to groom a successor for the last couple of years to improve the transition. I thought that successor would be the Associate Head Coach. Maybe McDermott is right though and Silva is head coach material. She was previously volleyball coach and player after all. I hope Silva can recruit I really hope the AD wasn't so shortsighted that she'd want to push Lavrisha out. They had their best season in the last six or seven years, and the program was a complete disaster when he took over. I hope that it really was just a retirement.

Nice pick up for USD. I wonder if Tommi Stockham will follow. I thought Haylee Stoner plays middle.

Nice pick up for USD. I wonder if Tommi Stockham will follow. I thought Haylee Stoner plays middle. You are correct. My mistake. Stoner is listed as a 6-1 MB...I will fix the list. That would give USD 5 middles and 5 pins, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if one of the 5 MB's ends up at the pins? Meanwhile, Portland has picked up a setter; 5'10 grad transfer, Paloma Bowman, from UC Davis. I believe she played the 2017 and 2018 seasons indoor as a setter, but then was on the UCD beach team? Gonzaga has also picked up a 5'10 setter transfer (SR) from Georgia: Brynn Chandler

Awaiting the WCC Pre-season Coaches poll.
But the AVCA pre-season poll has 3 WCC teams in the top 25
BYU #15 USD #20 Pepperdine #22
There should be some great conference matchups coming.
Pre-conference action is 5 days away.

Does anyone know how the LMU/usc scrimmage went yesterday? I don't but based on comments in the PAC thread and on this Instagram, it sounds like LMU won. Or at least did very well. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CS3DOtBn2wL

Thoughts on the Pepp LBSU exhibition. Meg Brown is Pepp’s most reliable and best player by far. And her leadership presence for just being a sophomore is undeniable. Pepp will not be a top 25 team this year. The pin situation is lack luster across the board especially when you compare it to the likes of Kash Williams from LB. wow that young is a star and uber athletic. Pepp really fell short on recruiting strong young pin successors with Scully’s departure and it will hurt them. Was hoping to see more fire power out of Chillingworth who was strong in her 14s and 15s club years. She definitely needs to hit with more power and jump higher. Hoping the defenders improve some too. Still early but not overly impressed.

Looks like Megan Rice is back for LMU! She definitely gives them a lot more firepower and will definitely give them more offense. LMU is definitely a dark horse for the WCC title!

Megan Rice has had an injury plagued career, but when she is healthy, she is a really efficient hitter who can take over a match. I didn't realize she was still eligible (she was a freshman in 2016), but she will definitely help LMU. I also just saw that, while Santa Clara sent their graduate student libero, Gretchen Reinert to BYU, Grace Wee has left BYU and landed at Santa Clara. A little DS/Libero swapping.
