4 matches on for tonight. LMU should take Portland pretty easily...possibly dropping a set, since they can get a bit wobbly at times. Pacific at Santa Clara should be the closest match of the evening. Pepperdine should roll at Gonzaga...Santa Clara swept up there last week. Saint Mary's should also have no trouble with San Francisco, but I would sure like to see the Dons finally get a win. Every time I think about San Francisco's current situation after they showed so much promise in the spring, I get a little depressed. It's really sad. They had so much potential in 2015? But when Gilad Doron left for Dartmouth, basically the entire roster left (and subsequently left to go play prominent roles at several other D1 schools). They had potential to be a tournament team if Doron had just stayed.

After he retired, I wonder if they would have been better off promoting Shane Tye. I mean, he was the associate head coach, so I think it would have been better to keep him for continuity. The new coach deserves a chance, but man, they're 0-16. And it wasn't even like the cupboard was bare, as they had some young talent on the team, but some of those players transferred. I'm amazed Ayub is still there.

Pepperdine and Gonzaga tied at 12

Portland extends their lead over LMU to 22-16... and Portland takes it 25-17. (Portland hit .350 in that set to LMU's .160)
Pepperdine woke up and leads Gonzaga 17-14...20-17
Pacific was down 5 and have closed to down 1. Santa Clara leads 18-17...now 23-19

bayarea , don't I still owe you a popsicle or something from besting me in match predictions a while back? Oh wait, it must have gotten lost in the mail. I think I got a weirdly sticky package back there a ways... haha

OK. I might need to turn on the feed to the Portland - LMU match. What's going on, people? Portland had an easy set 1 victory and out to a 4-0 lead in the second??
Santa Clara took set one over Pacific 25-20. Santa Clara hit .464 in the set to Pacific's .185, though SCU gave up 5 service errors.
Pepperdine, after a score reversal at set point, leads Gonzaga 23-19. And Pepperdine takes it 25-19.

Why did Geissberger not play set 1? Didn't this happen in another match where they tried to rest her in a set and lost, and then brought her on to salvage the match?

And now Geissberger with 6 kills at .625, haha. LMU has stormed back to a 10-9 lead.

But this is deja vu. I think it was against Fresno State. Maybe she's got a lingering injury or coach wants to mix things up.. don't know, but, it's clear LMU probably can't win much without her.

Geissberger now has 11 kills at .714. LMU leads 22-16 in the second set.
Now 12 kills at .733 and LMU leads 23-16. Hope this is a lesson learned. haha
LMU takes the second set 25-17 (the same score that they lost set one by) to tie the match at 1-1
----
Meanwhile, Pepperdine is pounding Gonzaga 20-10 in the second set, about to go up 2-0.
Pacific is down 0-1 but leads Santa Clara 20-17 in the second set.

I think it was really early in the season. I understand trying to get your stars a bit of a rest, but usually, you pull them when you have a big lead in a set or maybe rest them in set three when you won the first two sets easily. Doing it in the first set just seems like asking for trouble.

Pepperdine took the second set easily at Gonzaga 25-17 to go up 2-0
Pacific has set point at Santa Clara up 24-19, and they take it 25-20 to tie the match at 1-1
LMU up 8-6 in the third set at Portland, tied at 1-1

LMU is up 23-13 in the third set, and should have no trouble taking this in 4 sets ("I called it", heh heh..."one wobbly set" for LMU without Geissberger.)
Pepperdine is cruising toward a sweep at Gonzaga, currently up 14-7 in the third set.
The question mark is still the Pacific - Santa Clara match, currently tied at 1-1 with Santa Clara up 9-5 in the third. It could come down to SCU limiting their service errors - currently with 10 midway through set 3.
Saint Mary's is up 11-6 at San Francisco, and will likely cruise to a sweep

PS... Geissberger is now up to 18 kills hitting .810
LMU 25-15 to go up 2-1
Santa Clara now has 11 service errors but somehow leads 13-8
