Game Time BUMP! For those who haven’t had a chance to watch BYU play this year, now is your chance! Finally they play on a night where there aren’t many other big games at all. Although, it will be the undefeated team in WCC versus the defeated last place team in the WCC, so it may not be the best volleyball.

Checking in at 11-11 in the first set. BYU has 4 hitting errors, and USF has 2.
USF has one player with 4 kills hitting .667 so far. I expect BYU to wake up and clean up. This is a very unexpectedly slow start for them in Smith Fieldhouse.

I really love Aylen Ayub. I'm so disappointed USF doesn't have offensive options.

San Diego took set one over Santa Clara 25-13. Both teams had 11 kills. USD had 0 hitting errors, and SCU had 9. 😜
BYU completed the sweep of visiting USF with sets -19, -15, -14...improving with each set. Koerber had 14 kills hitting .571
Pacific took set one over Gonzaga 25-19
Portland came back from a deficit to take set one 26-24 over Saint Mary's.

Geez...what happened to Santa Clara? They look like they're still super deflated after that 5 set loss to SMC last week

Some signs of life from Santa Clara at the end of the second (maybe they're waking up) but USD took set 2 25-20...hitting errors are now 16 for Santa Clara, 5 for USD on the match. USD also has 3 blocks, Santa Clara has 0.

Santa Clara actually up 21-19 in the third set at SD
22-19, and then USD rattles off two straight points. TO SCU.
USD rattles off two more points to take the lead at 23-22. Another TO for SCU
After watching most of the B1G teams with their stellar back row play, I'm always disappointed that the WCC teams are nowhere near that level of backcourt defense. And none of them seem to set a priority on recruiting an excellent libero, or two, so the back row is sometimes like Swiss cheese.

After being down 19-22, USD rallied to a 25-23 third set and a sweep of visiting Santa Clara. Lukes finished with 15 kills at .300, Frohling 8 kills at .167. Blackwell was 7-0-10. USD had 6 blocks, SCU 0. Sangiacomo had 14 kills at .216 for Santa Clara. Shaffer and Tulino hit 0 against the USD block.
SMC is about to go up 2-1 over Portland.
Gonzaga is fighting to take the third set over Pacific...currently up 19-16

Choke from Santa Clara at the end of the 3rd set. 6-1 run to close out the match from San Diego. Also note that set 3 was Santa Clara's best set...USD and Santa Clara traded points back and forth for most of the middle part of the set. Somehow they managed to side out against USD when USD was serving, but unfortunately they had 4 service errors (from 3 different players) to give free points right back to USD during the middle part of that set...I say unfortunately because Santa Clara had a good chance of really pulling away from USD if those serves had been in. I think Santa Clara woke up in that game, but they were too late. It really did seem like they were still "out of it" from the 5-set loss last week in set 1 and the beginning of set 2.

Gonzaga has surrendered the lead against Pacific in the 3rd. Now down 22-23.
Saint Mary's jumped out to a 9-5 lead on Portland in the 4th, but it's tied at 9 now.
I am not surprised Santa Clara did not hold on to that lead. I've seen it from them before. It's frustrating for me watching, so it must be infuriating for the players and coaches.

Gonzaga can't recover after losing the lead. Pacific wins the 3rd, 25-23, and sweeps the Zags.
Saint Mary's the first to reach 15 in set four. Leads 15-13 over Portland.
Now 16-13.
